Monitor resolution not fitting

I just broke my 150$ monitor but luckily im at my grandparents house and I took one of their monitors. Only problem is its GIANT and I set it to the highest resolution. I set it and it cuts off a part of the right side of the screen while leaving part of the left side black as if it isnt there. Sorry if its dificult to understand ive never ran into a problem like this.

Try setting it to its native resolution. eg if its a 1080p then set it to 1080p

lol sorry for the stupid question I just kept refreshing the screen and it fixed itself
