Monitor resolution wont go higher than 1920×1080

Hi people.

Bought a new computer recently. Installed graphics card, installed latest drivers. However the monitors resolution wont go higher than 1920×1080.

I realize this is 1080p but i have a wide screen monitor and it cuts out quite a bit of the screen. Anyone experience the same problem? Any solutions?

whats the model of the monitor? does it support a greater resolution than 1080p?

Yeah, the monitor's native resolution is probably 1920x1080, which is a widescreen resolution. The aspect ratio is 16:9. I can't comment on why the screen is being cut off.

I had a bigger resolution on the PC i was using before so it must support it, unless i did it manually somehow i forget.

Im using a HDMI cable.

HDMI can only display up to 1920x1080, so switch to dvi for beyond that. but it looks like your monitor only supports 1920x1080 anyway. 1080p is a great resolution, anything beyond that is overkill for gaming or video viewing.

the resolution isnt pc dependent, its monitor dependent

Ah, gotcha.

From what i remember the desktop had a bigger resolution on my old PC but when gaming it switched to a different one.

IIRC, CRT monitors can do higher resolutions than LCD ones. You have a CRT monitor if it weighs 30 lbs and sticks out a foot behind the screen. If that's the case you should be able to turn the resolution up...but otherwise, most LCDs max out at 1080p.
