Question Monitors shut down, gpu fans 100%, faulting application dwm.exe ?

Hello,

recently I've been getting an issue where my monitors randomly shut down, my gpu fans speed to 100% and the only thing that helps is a hard reset. This issue has been happening since windows updated the intel driver (05/03/2021): Intel - System - 2040.100.0.1029

Since then, I installed a different version (without uninstalling the other version, just installing the fresh one) and I did the same with GPU driver, but the problem persists.

Event viewer reports this:

sometimes it also recovers: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Furthermore, the problem happens both when idle and when in game, so I don't think it's a temperature issue.
Sometimes it happens multiple times in a row, other times I can go a few days without the issue.

Any advice?

i7 8700k
1080ti gaming trio by msi
Hyperx Predator 16gb /8x2
Corsair rm750x
samsung970 evo nvme 500gb
MSI Z370 PC PRO

I had this identical issue. After updating everything under the sun, which did nothing to fix the issue, I just powered down the computer, removed the RAM and put it back in, also unplugged my video card ( the connector from the motherboard to the video card ) and plugged it back in. Powered the computer back up and I haven't seen the issue again. Hope this helps.
