[citation][nom]apoqWell yeah, but Apple can at least make a responsive device, if anything. The problem with tablets is that unless you get the touch input just right, it's going to end up being a pain in the ass, and it will have you reaching for your laptop in no time. [/citation]

Apple's touch implementation is really top notch on all of their devices.

I bought my HTC T8282 right after playing with an iphone because HTC's implementation is also very good. I prefered freedom on my device. I use my phone as my tethered modem all the time, incurring no additional charges than my basic AT&T $20/mo data plan.

I agree with you about not expecting much for a refined experience on this ASUS device. I've yet to find any touch phone that is as responsive as Apple or HTC's implementations, which they have constantly refined over several generations.

pretty cool, remove the Windows tax and put Android or similar on it and it would be a good deal. 7 makes it a no go for me. Acer will come out with a nice Android model soon.

LOVE the looks. Although personally I would prefer if the back didn't have that applish look. A glossy chrome or matte black would've done nicely too.

EP121 is spot on.
Even a 32gb will be fine, my home PC has a 60Gb SSD and only 25Gb is used and I have lots of prgrams installed.
This will probably only have a few installed and still have room for 2 complete seasons of TV and thousands of MP3s and photos.
However, an SD card reader would be nice.

Asus plans to start selling two Eee Pad models, the 12" EP121 and 10" EP101TC—by the "first quarter of next year". The estimated price will be $399 and $499 respectively,

I think you got those switched in the actual article....

Of coarse the iPad has better battery life. Without the need to play Flash video and do meaningful computing tasks you save big on power... lol!

I love how as soon as a tablet is announced that ISNT from Apple everyone here jumps on saying "oooh I want one," when 2 months ago they couldn't bash Apple fast enough.

A tablet is a tablet, no matter who makes it. If you don't have a use for an iPad what makes you think an Asus one would be any more useful?

That is the stupidest statement I have ever heard, that's like saying:-
"A car is a car, no matter who makes it"
Well, let's see a Tesla Roadster used to tow a caravan, or a Hummer used for drift racing.

It isn't the form factor that's the problem with Apple, it's the closed mind mentality and limits on functionality. A Windows tablet will allow people to do everything a PC does.

If you are considering a table, first get a smart-phone like the Android ones. You'll soon discover you don't really need a 8 or 10" screen to read articles, text-message or watch videos.

If I had the money, I would just get a EVO 4G. I have a G1, which has like a 3.5" screen, and at first I thought it was not enough. But, now I find myself doing all kinds of content access with it, and the UI is nice enough that the screen size is never a problem.

Not to mention that you'll get it money's worth in use, since it will be with you everywhere. Try logging it around a tablet every-where: to the supermarket, the electronic store, to clubs, The beach, etc. Most people would just leave the device behind to because it is inconvenient or to protect it from damage. Not the case with a smart phone.

Of course, if you have the money to have both, go ahead. But if you have "constrained budget" for electronics, start with an smart phone (Android) phone before you get a tablet.
