I had a non-flying character in a Champions
game I was running take the hard way down from
Earth orbit some years ago. He was an ultra-tech
robot, with full life support and about 30 points
each of fully resistant physical and energy
defense, not to mention some extra Body points.
He was probably the only character I've ever
had in one of my campaigns who I think could
have survived this...his quote, as he watched
the Earth get closer, "This is gonna hurt!"
I don't recall how many dice I threw at him - I
think it was 30d6 of normal physical for the
terminal velocity impact at the end, plus some
multiple number of 8d6 energy killing attacks
(fire) for the re-entry heat. A fisherman
pulled a very charred but still functional
robot out of the Sea of Japan at the beginning
of the next play session.
My question for the group: is there an
"official" ruling for how much damage re-entry
should do to a character? Perhaps in one
of the Hero sci-fi supplements?
