Question Motherboard and m.2

Hi all.

Quick question as I’m slightly confused. I have a MSI z170a Sli motherboard. It’s not the sli plus and I have tried to read the manual to see if it supports m.2 nvme and I’m getting confused as it says it supports Pcie 3.0 x 4 but then says supports pcie 3.0 x 4 with a u.2 host card. Does anybody know or have the same motherboard and does it support it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

No worries mate. It's a regular PCI-E 3.0 x4 M.2 slot. Any standard NVMe M.2 SSD will work. Which SSD are you planning to use?

Turbo U.2 Host Card is necessary only if you want to install PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe Mini-SAS SSD.

I don’t know as of yet if I’m honest. I checked my ssd the other day and it’s 5-6 years old and it’s only reading and writing 140 and it has my system on it. I was thinking along the lines of 240gb+
