Motherboard does not see hard drive dell 8200

dell dimensions 8200 needs hard drive. when i pug new one in computer starts then hard drive light flashes but does not start, everything is working. seems it can not find hard drive or drive does not power up.

Is this a second hard drive that you are trying to install? If so, open the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer management, Disk Management, and then NTFS format the new hard drive.

I hope you cloned the old hard drive onto the new hard drive.

As I stated my brother was given this computer WITHOUT ANY HARD DRIVE IN IT...no clone available...does not see a hard disk at all. can not even get to start up...

In that case, you need to install a new hard drive, format it NTFS, and then install a suitable Operating System such as Windows 7. After doing that, you can install the programs of your choice.

Does the computer post and does it fail?

Can you access the bios does it see the hdd?

Check all connections are secure and no damage.
