Motherboard Heatsink problem

Hi guys,

My computer was overheating so I had to change the cooler. I took it out and I went to the local computer store and they gave me EXACTLY the same.
When I tried to plug it I noticed that the holes are not fitting, so I pressed little harder and the plastic push ups broke !!!

Well, after that I went to a nearest hardware store in order to buy bolts , the only had METALIC ones so I took 4 and I took out the motherboard and I fit the cooling headsink.

Now my computer is not working, is powering off and then is shuts off. I am wondering what to do, there is no other cooling fan model for this old motherboard. Surely I'll buy a new one in the future , but how can I resolve the problem now? How to make sure that the screws are ok in order to fit the headsink?

Is there something else you advice me to do ? I cannot go to a hardware store right now because they closed so I have to wait until Monday.

By the way, of course I applied thermopaste before I fit the new headsink. The question is, shall the headsink fit on the thermopaste ? Shall I do something else ? I want my computer to run without problems and it seems the headsink is not doing good job because the CPU gets temps over 80C !!!!!

I am glad I have a second computer with Linux so I can do my work but I am wondering how in earth I should make the headsink working perfectly during this weekend.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanx

If the holes don't line up it's not exactly the same, they gave you the wrong one.

Yes, I think I applied toooooooooo much thermal paste.

So, I will try to remove motherboard again, clean the paste and apply new one in few quantity.

By the way, does the heatsink should touch the thermal paste ?

I wish was that simple. Unfortunately is the only model they have with four pins. The problem goes back when I fist bought the computer few years ago. The person who built the computer for me, he managed to fit the same heatsink, but when I had to remove it and get a new one, then the problem was there.

I will try to go again Monday morning with the motherboard into a computer store and demand from them to find me a heatsink which will be fit.

Yes you did :):)

Thank you VERY much

OK :)

I thought to wait until I fix the problem and then mark it as Solved, but ok, I'll pick it as a solution:):)

I removed the heatsink and I noticed it had paste on it, so it seems it was fitting ok. I also remove the cpu and I clean it, but the problem still occurs, it is turn on and then shutting off.

Anyway, I am glad I have a second computer with Linux and as for my first computer next month when my cousin will graduate as a computer engineering we will change everything. New motherboard with DDR4 RAM 32 GB, Intel I7, new sound card etc etc.

Conclusion : ALWAYS have a second computer for backup :):) . You will need it :)

Have a nice day guys and thank you for your help.

Is not run at all. It seems the metalic screws are screwing the pc, is not powering on. I am using my Linux laptop for the moment.
Unfortunately I don't have another power supply to test it.

I will call a technician to take a look
