Question Motherboard no lights, rgb ram lit

Built my own desktop. (7800x3d, Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite Ax Ice, 2x 32GB Corsair Vengeance 6400 Mt/s 32CL, PNY 4070 Super, Samsung 990 Pro)

It recently worked, though I've had an ongoing unsolved issue where turning on xmp caused instability and my keyboard to stop working (Razer Turret).

Now, I went to add a razer chroma rgb hub and the machine won't turn on. No motherboard diagnostic lights, nothing; except the rgb ram.

I deconstructed the machine down to the motherboard, cpu, ram, screwdrived it awake and - it works! Worked past ram check and got a vga light. So, next step: reassemble. And as soon as I do, back to the exact same problem. I'm going to be attempting to diagnose this myself with some testing, but I'm very confused and was hopeful I could get some outside input.

ANSWERED: Sorta?
Still no idea what is up with xmp, but I can now boot the pc! All it took was unplugging the new razer chroma rgb controller from the psu. Literally that connection was the deal breaker. I'm extremely confused as to why any of this happened, but it is no longer a crisis.

You need RAM with EXPO profiles.
How would I know? I assumed the ram that listed at 6400 would have a profile for running at as much. I'd even take the 6k, I think?, that AMD systems usually "like"? But it's running at 4800.

Edit: I checked, they're supposed to be XMP compatible. Does that not work on AMD chips too?

We can check if you give us the exact RAM kit number
- Open command prompt (hit winkey, search for "cmd").
- Type in or paste this: "wmic memorychip get devicelocator, partnumber"
What's the partnumber?

This is your RAM: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/mem...00mts-c32-memory-kit-black-cmh64gx5m2b6400c32

It says it's optimized for Intel platforms but that shouldn't stop it from working in AMD motherboards.

Here is the QVL list for the motherboard: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B650-AORUS-ELITE-AX-ICE/support#support-memsup

Unfortunately, your kit is not listed as compatible. That may be the reason it doesn't work as expected. Emphasize "may".

According to the QVL, this is the only Corsair 64 Gb kit that runs at 6400 MT/s CL32: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/ddr...00mhz-c32-memory-kit-black-cmt64gx5m2b6400c32

Any chance you can return and swap the RAM? Becuase they are quite pricy, so you don't really want to buy twice...
But at the same time, you paid good money for that kit and it's no good to you running at 4800 MT/s.

And sorry to stick my nose into your RAM choices, but are you really sure you will use more than 32Gb or RAM? Because it's kinda hard to push higher than ~20Gb without working with huge files or renders.
The motherboard supports up to 8000 MT/s so you could get a faster 2x16 Gb kit.

Up to you entirely but if you do want hella fast RAM, this Trident Z5 RGB is exactly that: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8w...dr5-7800-cl36-memory-f5-7800j3646h16gx2-tz5rs
Also very pricy.

You could also go for a 6400 MT/s CL32/30/28 kit that costs roughly half of what you paid for the Vengeance kit.
Another, cheaper Trident: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3Q...dr5-6400-cl32-memory-f5-6400j3239g16gx2-tz5rs
It's on the QVL like it's more expensive sibling, so it's confirmed compatible.

It would be a good kit for the next few years, while 64Gb kits are still kinda useless (unless you KNOW you need 64 Gb, or just want it for kicks).

Thank you for the extensive reply!

I'm unable to replace the ram sticks currently, as they were a gift. I would have likely picked any number of other options, but cest la vie. I could likely trade them for a pair of G.SKILL Flare X5 Series 2x16 GB 6000 MT/s CL 30 sticks (F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5) that I *think* would work. They're my wife's and we were considering getting her another pair of sticks. She is rather unlikely to break 32gb regularly, but between the two of us she's certainly more likely. We both play Anno 1800 but she's also more likely to hit it playing "pretty" things with mods and she has an allergy to closing chrome tabs.

Mods can eat up RAM and VRAM, that's true.

Well, the problem with RAM today is actually the old "you can have any two out of three" problem. Speed, capacity or reasonable price. :D

Gaming performance does like low latency, but that's more of a thing with high FPS competitive shooters, and not Anno.
So a slower, 64Gb kit would not affect performance too much (it's still DDR5 afterall) and it would be large and relatively cheap. Well, under $200 for sure, maybe around $170-180.

AMD CPUs do like faster RAM, but even if you take a performance hit, will it be enough to notice? If you don't play competitive games?

Use the handy RAM configurator on G.Skill's website. It's more extensive than many motherboard QVLs
