Motherboard Problem!

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 M5010 laptop with what appears to be a fried motherboard.

What I want to know is can the fried chip be replaced or do I have to buy a new mobo? (Something I want to avoid at all costs!)

I would also like any guidance on working out what the hell this chip actually is!

Can it be replaced? Probably, if you're handy with a soldering iron and know the model number of the IC that needs to be replaced. There's probably a lot more wrong than just the burnt IC though. My guess is that individual traces on the mobo are fried, and that's almost impossible fix (for an end user), as well as a few other components in the area of the burnt IC.

A new motherboard is your only option here, I'm afraid.

Ya even if you found out what chip it was resoldering one would be difficult, those components are precisely soldered.

Its a pretty weak laptop to begin with; how much is a motherboard?
