Motherboard Temperature to high (120c)

Hi, I have Dell vostro 230 with Intel H57 Motherboard, i7 860 Processor.
When I render a video processor Temperature goes from 40 °C to 75 °C
and motherboard goes from 70 °C upto 120 °C

What is wrong with my CPU? any help would be appreciated.

I'd love to see a screenshot of an i7-860 running 120C knowing TJmax is 100C; that would destroy the CPU. 70C~80C on a [strike]CPU[/strike] GPU is not too uncommon running an intensive rendering job. Even 120C exceeds the MOBO's chipset Tmax.

Bottom-line, the BIOS should have thermally shutdown the PC.

IMO - you need to clean-out the case, HSF, etc from ALL dust, verify proper airflow and that ALL of the fans are indeed working properly. Test the temps running Prime95 and using both HW Monitor and Real Temp; compare temps with the PC's side panel on and off. If the CPU is running hot then it's probably a good idea to remove the HSF, clean sink, clean off old thermal paste completely with Isopropyl alcohol and lint free towel, and replace the thermal paste with Arctic MX-4.

Yeah you bet, 120C is pretty high.
Have you added a GPU into that thing?
Processor temps going high under load is normal, although it ought to be in the 60 to 65 range not the 70- 80 range.
You may need an after market cooler to make things cooler in there. But, that being said, it's a Dell...... and you know how crazy it gets when we try to fool around with it's intestines.....
Adding a case fan would help you out, but again, it's a branded rig, difficult to get stuff in there.
Your case has a Vent at the back for a 80mm rear exhaust fan just below the PSU. if it does not have a fan installed there, I would suggest you buy one and use it there. That ought to bring down the temps a little.

I just opened the Hitsink + Fan and blow the dust from it.

Temperature looks similar with both app.

Room temperature is 27-29

Q- My power supply is Generic 300W. geting a 500W+ will that help in any way?

The range those temps should be within should be between 60 and 75 under extreme or full load and it's acceptable.
The processor is the worrying bit, since it ought to be doing as good as no work during the rendering time, very little, not to be under full load since the Nvidia Card has taken over the process of rendering.

Cleaning out the case is the first step.
Checking the HFS of the CPU and the GPU , blowing the dust out of it would be good idea.

And finally, looking for vents and fitting fans on them would be the third step to get the Mobo, CPU and GPU temps a little lower. I wouldn't expect any dramatic changes each one could go down by 5 Degrees.

MOBO = Motherboard

Aftermarket HSF - you have a problem with in-case cooling that needs to be addressed first. A properly seated stock HSF that's clean and in proper working order is more than adequate to cool the CPU running stock speed aka not overclocked.

I just went to shop and bought one cooler lokie cooler master but its too big. cant fit in my pc.

Hi, I have that extra fan on the case already. So yesterday when I went to buy that tall cooler, along with that I bought one 120mm extra fan as well. But unfortunately it's too big to fit in my CPU wall. Now that you have suggested me those cooler, but looks like it also comes with a 120mm fan . Again it's the same problem. Anything else that you might know of......

The fans can be changed to 80MM ones.....using the mounting kits.....for fans if that helps....

Or get a better case..... that's the best option..... give you unlimited upgrade options later on and you can still use the heart of the present rig......

Sorry, I am a noob, just opened my CPU first time, that why asking so many question. Thank you so much for your help so far.

But what do you mean by mounting kit, I searched on scan.co.uk. But no result. So is that mean I buy the one you suggested, and I need to buy a mounting kit to fit that 120mm fan into my CPU? Or I replace 120mm with a 80mm fan?

When we talk about a mounting kit for a 120mm fan on a Back panel or Vent of 80mm, the Back panel seems to be next to impossible from within the case 'cos of it's side panel holders, so usually a 80mm fan is mounted onto a 120mm vent the other way round gets way to complicated even for the experts.....
You need to get 80mm fans....
