[SOLVED] Motherboard upgrade issue

I just upgraded my motherboard to a b450 and put in a r5 2600 I know it’s not the best dont lecture me I’m a student I don’t care. But I had a paid version of Windows on an old custom pc that was paid for, not a prebuilt, and now my pc is asking me for an activation code, I don’t understand, the OS is stored on the drive not the motherboard, does windows expire? I doubt it, it’s asking for an activation code that I don’t have and a copy of Windows is 200$ so I’m alright with not paying that, just looking for a fix please and thank you!

For OEM machines, the Windows key is encrypted in BIOS for Windows 10. It's not stored on the hard drive. So it was stored on your motherboard.

haven't tried it, but if your windows is Retail (check if yours is), you can connect your windows to your microsoft account and reactivate it through it
