Mouse disconnecting and then reconnecting randomly

Ok I basically have the same problem: Mouse randomly disconnects, then reconnects
I tried everything in this thread and more and nothing worked.
I tried the powersave settings, disabled gestures, updating drivers, trying different drivers for mouse and chipset, etc
I reinstalled windows and got the error in the setup already.
I got a new mouse, which works perfectly fine with another pc, another keyboard
Changed the mainboard, psu, hard drive, dvd drive and graphic card.
I also build the system with minimal components, naked, even without a case on my desk.
I changed all the cables connecting components and ran the mouse cable far away from any other cable to avoid interference.
And still the problem remains.

I basically build a whole different system, fresh install and mouse still acts up.

It just doesn't make sense to me anymore. Help? Please?

I know you said your new mouse works in another pc but have you tried a 3rd mouse? Can you borrow one off someone? Like you said you've basically built a new system and it's still broken. That's messed up.

I changed my mouse already, but i have another spare and will try that one.
I ruled everything out but a extremely unlikely hardware error. Looks like I hit the jackpot of bad luck and got two defective piece of hardware in a row, there is something even weirder going on externally or I missed something dumb.

If it's something external then yeah maybe pack up the pc and take it to a frend's house! See if that helps. Good luck!

Yep, same problem, also a G9 mouse, also tried other mouses, no problems, it all started a week ago just after downloading a free program called jzip (probably not relevant, but it game me a whole bunch of task bar add ons I did not tick, and the mouse problem began)

Time to do a reinstall and see if this works

My mouse disconnect frequency multiplied 4x when i plugged in two external hard rives. I've done this before w/o issues.

Non of the previous tips helped, this is how i fixed it & it worked!!
I went to the device manager, expanded mouse.

There were two HID mice listed; one was Logitech & the other was "compliant mouse"
I disabled the "compliant mouse" & left the Logitech one alone.

Mouse is fantastic.

I had the same problem. After days of browsing the internet and trying out every solution offered (none worked) I found the cause for my random disconnects. This solution might only work in my case, but if there is any chance I can help some of you people with my findings then it would be worth it.

I have a Logitech G700, with it comes a usb-receiver and a usb-cord which should both be plugged in your pc at the same time.
On the back of my motherboard is a row of usb ports. They are in pairs of 2.
When I plug the receiver and the cable in at the same pair of usb ports, I start getting the random disconnects.
When I divide them over 2 different pairs of usb ports the problem is gone, permanently.

So, in my case it was 1 device with 2 usb plugins that gave the conflict. But I wouldn't be surprised if this conflict also shows up when other devices in a certain combination would cause conflicts.

I can recreate the problem and since I read so many people on so many different forums couldn't find a solution, I just had to reply this.

If this fixes the problem for you, please spread this solution so other people won't have to waste their time or even money on a problem with a possible easy fix.

I have tried uninstalling all the software from Logitech (Setpoint), no luck there. Someone gave the tip of uninstalling the drivers from Control Panel>Mouse>properties etc.. No luck there. I have disabled the function that can turn of the mouse for energy saving purposes. No luck there. I've been into the Registry and cleaned out some Logitech Setpoint entries that I could find (possible I've missed some). So now I can't think of anything else to try. I'd prefer to NOT have to reformat.

I did also just try to plug in my screen usb-hub on my Samsung 2493HM in case that might have had it's own power supply. But that didn't do any difference.

Something I could mention is that there was a Windows update on the 31 of october that updated "Realtek driver update for Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller". And my problems started occuring a couple of days after this I believe.

I hope there are some wise people out there that can help me

This has something to do with Windows 7, just upgrade to Windows 8, haven't have a problem since I installed Windows 8.1...

Clean out the optical area and the optic eye really well. All it takes is a few fibers stuck to the eye and it will cause it to ding dong disconnect recconnet randomly. I also found that if you have increased the scan rate, it will greatly aggrevate a slightly dirty optic eye. Those who play games will notice this more often and think it may be associated with Steam or something else, but it's not. I for the longest time though it was my motherboard. Try this out and I bet it will solve it for you.

After playing with the mouse disconnect problem for a little over a month and trying most of the ideas submitted by other users (and thanks for those I learned a lot even if they didn't fix the problem) I cleaned the accumulated lint (or what ever) out of my mouse it looks like it's fixed. all the information was and has been helpful, not sure if it fixed my issues (same general issues yet or not... i have a few things left to try, but i believe this has made significant progress in fixing this issue.

all of these issues seem to be related somewhere in the registry... while some are hardware issues from badly made hardware, or are purely tweak issues that somehow changed or randomly started accuring.

i believe all of these issues have a basis in something going wrong with the a registry relating to the mouse at some point or other making all of these difficulties that much harder to pinpoint and fix... whether registry changes were made by accident (cleaning out steam games or steam entries left over to allow re-installing etc., one of the most annoying things about steam) or were done by adware/trojan/malware/drive by downloads (DBD's can come with other software downloaded too, some of the worst is download managers) and MSE (microsoft security essentials) doesnt recognize most of these as being dangerous even tho they are in many cases far more sinister in there way than full on viruses/worms/trojans/etc. are.

because while the registry keys listed above are the main keys and ones that control the mouse/mice directly there are other entries in other areas of the registry for your keyboard and mouse devices being used (whether ps2/usb/wireless) that also effect how the mouse works... even outside of the programs/software etc. that mess with or install these keys (such as how a game is using a mouse etc.)... which no one has discussed as of yet here, this is important to note because messing with these other registry entries can effect how the mouse behaves regardless of most settings in programs/mice and other devices etc..

i know this because my issues happened only after i had deleted left over registry entries for Baldur's Gate: EE after having to uninstall it because beamdog (the ones who created or are responsible for the creation of Baldur's Gate 1+2 EE versions) left a bunch of extra garbage in their coding for their 'player' (there form of DRM retardation)... forcing those who bought the games through steam to have to mess around with both registry and windows operations that no one ever uses for any other game.

on of the entries that you could potentially delete was a registry entry that had to do with how the mouse was used... which is what triggered these issues on my 64-bit version of Windows 7.
to say the least i was not happy about either occurrence, to say it is annoying is a little bit of an understatement... most of this stuff i can fix on my own, however this issue doesnt work into common sense when it comes to how things should work on any OS in regards to registry and fixing something that should have been a quick and simple fix.

in order to fix this permanently instead of having workarounds, we have to look at any other registry entries that have anything to do with the current device.
while some of these things work, i dont think they address the core issue or start of the problem... which i believe is hidden somewhere in the registery, so far i have had no luck in finding it tho sadly enough and no registry cleaner or Microsoft registry monitor system is smart enough to fix the problem either. (another reason i think the registry is the cause somewhere is because ppl keep having the same problem even though they have tried everything else, including testing if its electronic emissions).

anyways, ill be back later (i hope) to report on whether all of this stuff combined has finally (seemed to) fix the issue via the work around...

update:
ok, so this is how things are working out for me right now... while the workarounds/fixes listed here did get rid of the super annoying windows noises that would ping in the ear painfully, the mouse still exhibits the same issues as before.

so on the one hand thats nice that i dont have to deal with the noise, but still have the mouse issues... not fixed currently, will be easier to deal with for now.
will try and look through more mouse entries at some point in registry, later on (could be a few weeks with christmass and new years etc.).

I had the same problem where my mouse and keyboard which were connected to USB port rather than PS2 port use to disconnect frequently for 6-7 seconds and then reconnect.(for over 4 months) and i lost all hope. In my case power was coming from Power socket to UPS, which was further supplying to SMPS. I read all similar forums and utilized every trick which i can deploy like changing power settings, disabling gestures, updating drivers, changing OS, new mouse/keyboard etc...
Finally i changed SMPS, it did gave some hope for 1-2 days, But still issue not resolved. Suddenly an idea came to my mind of placing VOLTAGE STABILIZER to this whole unit....What i did: Placed Voltage Stabilizer in between UPS and Power socket. and of my surprise Issue got resolved. And it's been 2 months i haven't faced that issue and really happy to share the solution which could be applied by many users.

This is how I fixed this problem! I went onto "Devices" in Control Panel and selected the mouse. I pressed the hardware tab and saw two device functions. I selected the second one and clicked properties then change settings. Then, I clicked the power management tab and unchecked the "Allow this computer to sleep this device to save power" Box. This stopped my mouse from disconnecting. Hope it works for you!

laerkai's solution seems to be working for me. Although problem did not fully disappear my mouse disconnects WAY less than before, even in games. I might try to clean optics in my mouse (Logitech M500) with alcohol (i cleaned it with dry hygienic stick), also cleaning/changing mouse pad or surface might be helpful. I had no idea that laser mouse can behave this way. I had no such problems with previous infrared mouse. Plus optics in my current laser mouse seems to be rather clean... Well, good job laerkai!

Sooo... my mouse was ok for some, rather short, time and then the same problem occured again. Mouse kept disconnecting more and more often and now its officialy dead. It disconnected making familiar sound and did not reconnect, so I unpluged and plug it in again. Sometimes i had to do it few times a day and like 2h ago it disconnected for the last time and unpluging did not help, system doesn't see it. I borrowed different one, cheap wireless Logitech and works perfect so far. As I've been searching for the solution I noticed that people having this problem mostly use Logitech mouses. Maybe problem is caused by some cheap chineese component of the mouse? It seems like the mouse had problems receiving voltage from USB port, but cable is ok, tried moving it but without effect. Anyway, I will have to buy a new mouse, probably wireless this time. I can't even find a way to open old mouse so i could see what have happened. There is no sign of bolts or anything... damn.

THIS. After that use a different surface or clean your mousepad. Also, turning off raw input ingame do help..

I just upgraded winders 7 64-bit with the latest patches from Microsoft and right in the middle was a Mouse upgrade. Problem is, this mouse upgrade was for a newer version of the Microsoft mouse. I have an older mouse that WILL NOT work with this upgrade, but the upgrade does not know that it is not for this mouse and performs the update anyway. When that happens, the mouse does funny things and none of the buttons work. I have to go to the microsloth site and down load the drivers for my old microsloth mouse, install them, then everything works ok. The other option is to purchase the newer mouse and perhaps this is what microsoft was trying to accomplish.

I have a Dell Lattitude E6440 (64-bit) and USB (Logitech) mouse recently started turning on and off randomly and frequently. I tried updating the drivers, turning on and off the energy rules, and everything else I could find on the Web. Everything failed. I was so frustrated. A friend of mine told me he had the same problem and had downloaded the updated drivers from Dell for the Touchpad. It worked. Took care of the problem. Hope this helps others.

Quick Solution: Uninstall Microsoft mouse and keyboard essentials

I Have:...
A Microsoft mouse
Microsoft mouse and keyboard essentials is installed

Diagnosis:....
Device Manager Reports: a Microsoft mouse (Right Click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager > Mouse)
Programs and Feature Reports: Microsoft mouse keyboard essentials (Control Panel > Program and Features)

Action to Fix it:....
I uninstalled Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Essentials

What Changed After the Fix?:....
Device Manager Reports: A HID-Compliant Mouse
Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Essentials has been removed

The Result:
The mouse no longer briefly freezes
There are no longer any disconnect sounds
Now I get to live happily ever after 8þ

t's so simple and yet almost not logical. Take a q-tip and wet it with rubbing alcohol.

Its funny as I am on my third mouse over 6 years due to this problem, 2 x G500s and now onto Razer, although the Razer has been fine so far. It seems to have worked as there were fibres caught up in the optical section in my second g500 (havent looked at the first one yet). I thought it was the cord on the first mouse and then I had just given up on g500s after it started happening again. I think it might be the design of the optical area making it more likely to catch fibres. thankyou very much!!

Also, I think that the fibres in the optical/laser recess are actually from the braided cable in my case which can start to fray and shed fibres after a year or so of heavy use.

The usb port itself could be the one causing the problem. If the mouse works on other computer's usb port, suspect that your pc's usb port is the faulty one. Therefore, avoid connecting devices to that faulty usb port.

I've been having this issue for several weeks now. I just solved it just now when I connected my Trust GXT 145 mouse to another usb port at the back of my pc running Windows 7 Home Premium. I just discovered that I disabled that usb port so that I won't connect any device to it anymore but silly me, I accidentally connected my mouse to that usb port. So now, the problem is solved.
