there are temp fixes, but cause still remains a mystery... still convinced its a issue with the registry entries.
temp or workaround fixes are a page or two back, the best ones so far.

you might have to try a few before you find one that works, which means a lot of skimming or reading.

Currently having some success by disabling unused USB controllers, not just removing them and allowing them to be reinstalled at the next boot - disabled. Windows no longer runs thru the room every quarter second asking what's up with empty ports just confusing him. Other solution is to populate every USB port you have, with nothing new going on, Windows keeps on running thru to the next room.

I find myself playing now you see it now you don't with the power light on my mouse. I've caught the SOB at half glance turning back off the light when I go to look to the screen for where did my pointer go game. I suspect that they have become self-aware and this is just a testing phase as in just how stupid are humans? Meanwhile in the Cloud, skynet is forming...

Ah'll be Bach

I've been having this problem for sometime myself, but don't go spending any money on new mice or anything. Well I guess a few of you that actually might have been the problem, but it's not just the mice. I play games online as well, and the problem tends to switch between my mouse, controller, and my headset; or when my PC wants to really have a good laugh all at once. I don't remember who said it, and am not about to go back and read all comments again. But it has to be in the registry. I recently had a problem, and had to restore my PC from scratch. Somewhere in between the updates from windows you'll find the problem. Seeing is how I went awhile with no problems, and not having all the updates done at the end because I didn't have the time. But sure enough when I did get to them the problem popped back up. Also my mouse is connected in the back, and controller and headset in front. So its not playing favorites with me on which side the USB connection is effected. I Imagine it could be a subtle way to make people spend money on new products (devices and windows 8.1) like someone said earlier. Or it just wasn't a problem that they thought was very important to rush to fix, and just happened to work in their favor. hah! Anyways don't go wasting your money on 6 new mice like that one poor guy did, because that's not it. Thanks for the info on the options in the PC to play around with. Hopefully it will work. If not I'll probably find myself restoring again and unselecting any device updates windows 7 update has to offer, and get them elsewhere. Or digging in my pocket for 8.1. XD

Hello,

^Donno if this gonna help, but beside disable the power saving of the USB ports from the "manage device" menu, those ports will keep shutting down because of the OS default system. Every OS start with the power saving method, where it will disable HDD after a few minutes when not used, and also the USB ports.

Control Panel --> System and Security --> Power Options --> Change when the computer sleeps --> Change advanced power settings

In there you will found what your computer is doing to save power, and as you will notice, even after you did turned off the USB ports from "sleeping" in the manage device menu they will be ON in here. Which means, the ports will keep shutting down.

I hope this may help.

A similar thing is happening to me, except it happens after what seems the same amount of time, but haven't timed it. it also physically turns off, the optical laser stops working. I have to physically turn it off and back on on on the mouse itself to start it again. I am running a windows 8 laptop, and it is a windows wireless mouse. Unsure of specs

Hi, I have a G7 mouse (bit older but also plagued with freezing issues). I found a solution (kinda) - basically I put the wireless receiver into the USB port on the battery charger rather than an on-board USB port. This reduced the freezing by about 95%. I don't know why.
Of course none of this is relevant if your model doesn't use either of these 🙂

I connected mouse via usb hub (Canyon 4-ports hub) and have no more issues. Also, I disabled Selective usb suspend, and in device manager untick "allow the computer to turn off this device" in all of USB root Hub devices. This must be windows 8.1 bug that came via windows update, since the system worked fine untill I ran windows update. Which update is causing this, I dont know.
Hope this helps.

It's a no go, mouse disconnected again while playng tomb rider. I disabled "Legacy USB sipport" in BIOS, and plugged my mouse in USB 3.0 port, now we'll see... I'l keep you guys posted.

If this fails, I will try to workaround the problem with this device: http://www.chipoteka.hr/artikl/53340/adapter-usb-a-z-na-1xps2-m-33103. It enables mouse or keyboard to work on ps/2 port. It will do the trick. But first lets try mouse with legacy usb support off in bios, and if it fails, i will reinstall OS, and disable windows updates.

Im using old Microsoft's Basic optical Mouse 1.0A and I dont have disconnecting issues anymore. Mouse is fine, but it has archaic 400 dpi sensor which is inadequate for today's 1080p resolution, so I will buy a new one

Yeah I'm having the same issue. I was using an old Logitech gaming mouse, Windows 7 64 bit. I've tried every suggestion here but none of them worked. Moving the mouse to a different port seemed to help for a few minutes, but then it started up again. I switched to a generic mouse (also Logitech) and so far so good. Hopefully it'll continue working. I'd rather lose the gaming buttons than put up with that annoying issue ever again.

I've been having the same issue and I tried all the work around on the internet the problem is a corrupted file in the registry and an incomplete or corrupted Microsoft Update I ran Microsoft Fix it and all my issues with usb devices disconnecting and reconnecting have gone away.

i have this same problem....however it is happening on 2 separate pcs. i have gone thru the device manager and disabled all the power settings for each individual port as well as everything else listed in this post. I have no idea what else to try besides getting a different mouse.. Logitech 518 and g400s are being used. I know it isn't my usb because my xbox controller and keyboard work fine. The first time I uninstalled all my mouse drivers and reinstalled it worked for about 4 hrs then started happening again. I tried doing that again but it isnt fixing it anymore. I downloaded the microsoft fix it and it detects no problems.

Good Day,

This is obvious 'griefing' and done on purpose, I have taken all steps mentioned, and finally have zero'd my hard drive, and performed a clean re-install of my computer, and only installed 1 game .. Halo ..
After a week of no mouse problems, I entered the multiplayer game, and found certain gamers would send me very targeted messages, stating 'LAG' and other nuisances, that I only experienced after they said it was happening .. once again my mouse acted up.
Chasing down the 'NAG' program that is left on my computer is proving hard, as it does not want to be found .. in my research I have discovered the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit, and have altered the halo.exe as to prevent their targeted 'LAG' griefing, but cannot stop the mouse 'NAG'
Trust me, it is not a simple fix, and elongated trial and error, has led me to the fact, that this problem only comes from someone altering your computer with a program.
I also have evidence of someone placing a keylogger during my gameplay, and then uninstalling it.

I used MRU-blaster to catch this evidence.

I know it is happenning, but am unable to prevent it from happening further.

also I found that the mouse NAG stops while my browser is on facebook, and if I leave it on, during gameplay, the NAG stops also.
if there truely was a problem with the mouse, or usb port on the motherboard, it would happen during SAFEMODE, as it does not.

until there is a way so safeguard the mouse and video refresh rate, this griefing will continue.

TY. this worked for me.

SOLVED

Found the below and worked for me.

If you're experiencing mouse lockups or failures, it may be because your computer is automatically turning off the power to a USB Root Hub.

Go to your Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > and click on the "Device Manager" button.

In the Device Manager window, find the item or items labeled "Universal Serial Bus controllers." Open it, and double-click the first item called "USB Root Hub."

In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog, click on the "Power Management" tab.

"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked by default. Uncheck this box, and click "OK."

I think my issue is hardware related, since this doens't happen on the other ports, only on the right one. Very, very annoying. I opened my laptop to see what I could do, the little things on the flat cable was a little messed up and I fixed it. And right now it doesn't even work anymore... goddammit!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: just messed with the little pins on the USB port, this time I pulled down the golden ones too... I just heard the unplugging sound, but it's working for now. I could use the other ports, but it's more annoying to have a broken thing to me than hearing "plum plum plum" or something

I had this same problem and scoured many many threads similar to this one, i tried adjusting settings in device manager, and was worried there was a problem with the power supply or motherboard or something on my new laptop...After enough trial and error i found the culprit. My mouse (2 months old Gigabyte M5050 Optical Curve Mouse) had a slightly temperamental wire and through some degrees of movement the wire would disconnect and reconnect, seemingly at random...The fix...i coiled the wire tight and embedded it in a cylinder of quick drying resin I had laying around...the wire doesn't move at that point anymore and things are working very smoothly! I imagine its only a temporary fix but a fix nonetheless.

Windows update is due out today I believe and I have had this problem on and off for several months, also I've had an odd glitch where I'd try to get on facebook and I'd get a pause for several seconds...the only temporary cure for both issues seems to happen after a new window fix is applied. I'll post here after the update comes out if my current mouse issue is solved.

tried to update to windows 10 but was fail, mouse works fine now

I think this is a virus, I have a lot of the issues above and some guy on Twitch does, there must be something going on, some kind of virus.

I have had this problem for a few months. My mouse would freeze up and disconnect, then reconnect, then windows wouldn't recognize the mouse until I unplugged and re-plugged which is pretty inconvenient in the middle of games. I have tried every fix I could find on the internet and I cannot believe that this is what fixed my issue. I had to make an account just to share this.
