Mozilla Says Microsoft Went Too Far With Windows 10

They could've had a friend or relative do the upgrade for them or perhaps just bought a new pc with 10 already installed, (I'm sure MS isn't going to limit this change just to the upgrades) and not know how to change it or they might not even know that it can be changed. Its not fair to them is it?

How often do you buy a new computer with Firefox installed? Almost every prebuilt system comes with IE. Edge is just the replacement for IE.

So when will Apple start shipping Macs with Firefox as the default browser?

Its not like MS did not have IE default since the later versions of Windows 95 or anything?

MS shouldn't be allowed to change my default choices they are trying to force people to use their bloatware. Sure most can change it back themselves, but we shouldn't have to, and some will not be able to figure out how to change it themselves. Yes there are people that won't be able to figure it out (e.g. the tea baggers, fox "news" watchers).

What alternative do you want? State agencies dictating how Microsoft can write their own software? How about talking about OSX, and how you literally have no power over that at all?

In the end, its Microsofts software, you chose to use it, and that means putting up with whatever they want to do with it. The 2000 antitrust case was about monopolistic power on the x86 platform, which is still a valid argument, but has nothing to do with whatever defaults or settings Microsoft wants to put in their OS.

If their TOS said we are going to record your microphone and webcam and sell all that footage to whoever wants it, and you click yes (and you would have to to use the OS) there is no violation of anything happening because you agreed to be spied on. That is how a lot of this Cortana stuff works in the first place.

You chose your OS, and you have the choice to either not use Windows 10 or any MS OS at all if you wish it. It might even be a hard choice, if you are dependent on Windows only software, but its still your decision to make, especially if you decided to use Windows-only products in the first place.

How about asking if they want to change their default browser during the upgrade instead of just doing it. That isn't too hard is it? But, they are afraid most won't opt in to try their new browser so they will force us to instead. I guess they know after years of offering such a crappy product people have learned not to use MS browsers what a shock.

And please be serious people that buy apple know what they are getting and they have no expectation of multiple choices like people that use MS do. They buy it because it is easy to use and simple to operate. And the only people I know using a chrome boxes are school kids, I can't give chrome books away, jsmh.

Yes, I choose my O/S, but based on the software I want to run, funny I don't seem to have any choice based on that. Most only run on MS, it's like a virtual monopoly. Most games only run on MS, so again we're stuck with MS. So I'll just stay with Win7ultimate for now. I have almost a year to decide when to take the plunge if I do at all. And I'll be sure to choose the browser I want to use, if I do "upgrade".

unless you choose to import from a previous browser Mozilla will always default with their Welcome page, which now tries to get you create an account and "sign-in" with them, and also defaults to a Yahoo search bar built-in. you have to dig into settings to change these.
pretty much same as Microsoft's Windows, you have to choose not to, or it defaults to the same type of circumstance.

well, evolution is a rough game. when one species gains the advantage that's usually the end of others, unless they can come up with some new adaptation that ensures their survival or the end of the others above them on the food chain.
if some company, developer, or advertising agent can come up with something better and cheaper than Windows then it will be the end of it as the top reigning OS that everyone builds for and 90% of customers buy.

But, until that happens Windows is like humans: killing off everything else whether it be unfairly or not.

If you hate MS and Windows so much, come up with something better and save everyone from the threat you are trying to advocate.

You don't seem to understand what the word MONOPOLY means, and how it is used to kill BETTER products at times. We have laws against monopolies. If they had done the CORRECT thing years ago and broke them up we would have much better evolution by now But again, even convicted monopolies can pay enough of a check to the whiners to pretend the CONVICTION never happened at all...

Even when broke up, they constantly work to buy themselves out again...ROFL. Look at Ma Bell, the baby bells are now owned AGAIN by just a few people. One company owns ~11 of them again today...LOL.

Browsers are a commodity. They all do similar if not the same darn thing. Most browsers are getting away from proprietary features. With Edge, MS is adhering more closely to web standards. Other companies have been doing things like this for years and not really progressing beyond that. If Firefox had features other browsers don't have that made more people want to use it, they would definitely seek it out and install it.

But why get something that has an orange fireball on it when your thing with the blue 'e' does the exact same thing?
