I'm so sick of laptop manufacturers putting "IPS Level" on their display description. It's either IPS, VA, or TN. If I see "IPS Level" I assume that's false advertising and expect something awful.

As I understand it's been explained to me, there is a trademark on the name IPS, so any time it's used in marketing materials, companies have to pay a fee. Calling something IPS level is a way of getting around this. And while I've certainly seen screens labeled as IPS level that don't get all that bright, I've never seen one without the excellent off-angle viewing that is the hallmark of IPS panels.
