Hi group,
I have replaced my old Packard Bell board with a MSI 845pe max2. I have used
my old HD and cd drives and floppy. I have an Intel P4 1.8Ghz (400Mhz FSB,
256K Cache.) CPU and 256 ddr
I struggled to get an o/s onto the hd. Eventuall y it's on but with errors.
The system crashes mainly when installing games. I have looked in the bios
and there is no way of checking the chip speed. I have downloaded the
updated bios from MSI but when I run it a message says the file does not
exist !
Any ideas?
Mick

Did you do a clean format on the hard drive and reinstall the
OS? You shouldn't get any errors after that. Cause I have
almost the same board and stuff that you have.

The 845PE chipset is 533 mhz frontside bus. This is likely the default. I'm
not sure your 400 Mhz processor will run on this board. Someone here will
know and speak up shortly I'm sure.

Thanks to nonsense marketing, it's more difficult to see
than it should be, but yes it's compatible.
CPU uses 100MHz clocked FSB. Board supports QDR533, which
is 133MHz, but also backwards compatible to 100MHz clocked
FSB.

I should have read your post better. If reformating the hard drive
doesn't work get a new one. What size is that hard drive? It can't
be that big if it came out of a Packard Bell.
