Hi i was looking to get a PC upgrade, I have an MSI B150M Bazooka motherboard and just wanted to confirm it could support a I7 9700k. As the motherboard supports the same chipset which is LGA1151. Does this mean they would both work fine together, as right now i only have an I5 6500k which can be hard even with just discord and a game open, thank you so much to any one that takes there time out of there day to read this.

There are dummy pins in 100/200 series sockets that are active on 300 series boards for power, thats why 8/9th gen wont work despite same socket.

Your upgrade path could be an 6700/6700k or with bios update, an 7700/7700k. Only if for a good price of $150 or below. Around $300US can get a new Ryzen build, 3600+mobo.

You can always check the manufacturer supplied CPU Support List to verify if a processor is supported on your motherboard. As above, unfortunately, the 8th and 9th generation processors are not supported.
