In reading about this motherboard, it says " The absence of a PCIe 4.0 lane ..." What does that mean? Is this motherboard slower than others regarding PCIe Gen 4?

I will have the Intel i7 11700k CPU and Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.

Thanks.

Solution
Hi jimlau.

The motherboard has PCIe 4.0 if you have an 11th gen Intel. Which you have.

PCIe SLOTS
  • 2x PCIe x16 slots
    • Support x16/ x4
    • PCI_E1 (from CPU)
      • Supports up to PCIe 4.0 for 11th Gen Intel® CPU <------------------------
      • Supports up to PCIe 3.0 for 10th Gen Intel® CPU
    • PCI_E3 (from Z590 chipset)
      • Supports up to PCIe 3.0
  • 2x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots (from Z590 chipset)

STORAGE
  • 6x SATA 6Gb/s ports (from Z590 chipset)
  • 3x M.2 slots (Key M)
    • M2_1 slot (from CPU) 1
      • Available only on 11th Gen Intel® CPU
      • Supports up to PCIe 4.0x4 <------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I saw the specs, but a review made it sound like it was a downside versus more expensive boards, in pointing out for some reason the line,
The chipset Z590 is still lacking the PCIe 4.0 lanes by itself. The absence of a PCIe 4.0 lane for the chipset has also decreased the load and improved thermal performance ." Doesn't sound like a good thing. ;)
Thanks.

Every Z590 has PCIe 4.0 only if you use a 11th gen Intel. It will not use PCIe 4.0 if you do not have that CPU gen.

Can you show me the review?

Link below. I'm thinking maybe an H570 MOBO, since it has more SATA and USB 3 capacity. Then there's the z590. Not sure that would provide much more. Thoughts?
