Hi, I wanted to know if Z97 GAMING 5 has support for NVMe? I want to buy a SSD like this one: Samsung 970 EVO

Thanks.

Yes, and no.

- 1 x M.2 Key M Socket supports type 2280/2260/2242 storage devices in both PCIE Gen2 x2 & SATA mode*
M.2 port supports M.2 PCIe module up to 10Gb/s speed**

You're limited to PCIe Gen2 x2 or Gen3 x1 (same effective speed), which is odd - normally Z97 boards were Gen3 x2 or Gen2 x4 (again, same effective speed).

So, your throughput is severely limited being Gen2 x2..... That's 1/4 of the lanes that the 970 EVO is intended to be used for.

In all likelihood, it would be functionally the same as a standard 2.5" SATA SSD at that point.
