Multiplier lock

What happens when you change your multiplier jumper without unlocking it? Does it fail to boot or does it not matter?

256 PC133 - Maxtor 45GB ATA100
Radeon 32DDR - SB Live MP3+

i'm pretty sure it just boots up to the default chip speed and runs without any problems....
