The DS3L is fine for the E2180. Thats what i originally had till i sold it...lol

I used to like Crucial ram but they are dead now....just find a good set. Corsair, Patriot, G. Skill whatever is cheaper.

OK - I guess the DS3L will be my board - again, I'm going to use this with a cheap CPU (E2180 or anything that's around that) and DDR2 RAM,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227139

how's this?

I'm going to use the 3 for ~2 months, until the Nehalem Mid-range chip comes out, and I'm going to snag it along with the 4850X2....then sell the 3 to a friend who's waiting to build a $5-600 PC in ~2 months....

(in the mean time I'll use my old 7900gt)

I'll sell the combo to him for...maybe $10 off mobo and cpu, so I'll lose ~$20, but have money to buy the new stuff....X58/Bloomfield....good plan?

P.S.....

That looks about like the setup I'm trying to fly past my wife. Basically a sub-$300 PC, or $400 with a good vid card - that's with a case/PSU combo to get under $300. Possibly a good Media Center PC when I can upgrade again.

*nods* Very good inexpensive setup. Tom's had a $500 game rig earlier this year, and the prices have really plummeted since then - and getting ready to do so again.

I also agree with waiting at least 6 months after the new stuff comes out before getting it (what am I talking about? I've had the same system for about 8 years!). Prices will drop. Also, it looks like there will be a "mainstream" Nehalem released with the others, just maybe not at the time - but maybe a month or two later. Go back and look at the chart that was put up earlier in this thread.

When you do get to it, build a great system, and it should last you a few years (up to 5). And for game play, all you should have to do is upgrade the graphics and nothing else. My A7V333 and XP 2000+ can attest to that.

haha. thanks. I'll be pairing this stuff up with an Antec P182, Corsair 620HX, X-Fi Extrememusic Fatal1ty Pro, Logitech Z-5300e 5.1 speakers, (temp 20" Samsung, waiting for a 24" black friday), (temp 7900GT, waiting for 4850 X2 in Sept), and (selling CPU/Mobo/RAM to friend when Mid-range Nehalem comes out, along with X58 and DDR3)

The OCZ RAM is significantly cheaper than the other 2GB.....is that strange?

The Midrange seems to be coming out at the same time as the higher end Bloomfields...

A 2.93 GHz Core i7 900 system has been used to run a 3DMark Vantage benchmark and gave a CPU score of 17,966.[10] The 2.66 GHz Core i7 800 scores 16,294. A 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo E6600 scores 4,300.[11]

sounds good...

Again, I will sell the E2180/DS3L/RAM to my friend in ~2-3 months, and get myself a HD4850X2, 24" LCD, and Midrange Nehalem CPU with CPU cooler....
