My computer did a chkdsk scan and now it seems to be missing many important file

My desktop comp. using windows xp is unable to find my modem. All trouble started when comp did a check disk utility that took a very long time and has not worked right since PLEASE HELP also says no ip but i think i have fixed that???

If CHKDSK caused problems then it is likely you either had a bad Windows crash that corrupted files or your hard drive is failing. You should run a diagnostic program on your hard drive, and if it says to replace your hard drive then replace it. Then, once you know your hard drive is fine, reinstall Windows.
