This morning I booted up my computer and immediately heard a loud popping noise followed by another one a couple seconds after. Then it just shut down and automatically restarted...After that it just booted up like nothing happened, and everything seems to be working. No other noises or smells.

In the last week I just purchased a new 750w corsair PSU, gtx570, and 8gb RAM. I'm leaning toward the PSU, but I have no idea.

WHAT COULD THIS BE?

Just looked everywhere on the motherboard and couldn't see anything unusual. I might have to take off my graphics card to check 100% under there. Would it just be a area of black? Will this have any performance difference on my system now?

Alright, I'm currently on my old laptop..I tried to play a game on my PC, and it shutdown immediately. after restarting it keeps shutting down every time i log into windows... Is it my PSU?

HELP PLEASE!

If a cap blew the performance degradation will depend on the motherboard circuit/features that utilize the cap.

For instance, if an on-board sound cap blew, and you use a sound card and not the on-board sound, then you may never see any performance degradation.

This could be a heat related issue. Download and run "RealTemp 3.40" (not 3.60) and check temps. See whether a laptop cooler will help.

OK, im on my PC again. I just took out my new 750w PSU and put in my old 550W fatal1ty PSU, and its not crashing anymore. I even loaded and played a game and it seems its all working well. Could it just be a bad PSU from newegg? It was working for about a week. But I guess something just blew when I turned it on this morning? Why would it blow though? its 750W! that's way more than what i'm running on now...And when I took out the new PSU i couldn't see or smell anything wrong with it. I did see this white glue looking stuff all over everything.

Also would those loud pops have affected my new GTX570? Or my Mobo? I hope not. The computer still recognizes the card as a GTX570 but other then that I have no way of knowing if it damaged anything else..

Your Graphics card should be ok. The PSU must have had a manufacturing defect. 750 watts is definitely more than adequate, and Corsair is a good brand.

RMA the defective PSU to Newegg.

Could it have just been something in the graphics card as well? I've heard if a capacitor blew inside the GPU, it would still work, just run weird or something. Before, the computer crashed right as I loaded a game, then after that it would crash every time i just logged into windows...when I was putting in my old PSU i did take out my 570 and also couldn't see or smell anything unusual. I guess i'll play some games to check if anything looks strange.

Look inside the PSU with a flashlight and see if you can see any burnt components. Also, put it up to your nose and sniff it. I'm betting that you will either see or smell something wrong inside it. Just DON'T open up the PSU or damage the sticker(s) that are used to seal it or you will void your warranty.

Since your system is now working fine with the old power supply, stop second guessing yourself and just RMA the PSU.

Ya that's the thing. I could see or smell anything strange with the PSU. Only think that was weird was the huge globs of white glue looking stuff all over everything...
