Well, after going to e3 for the first time on friday, I thought that you guys may want to hear some impressions. (Maybe not, but I don't care :->)
The battle of the small:
Both GBA and N-gage were cool. Some cool old school games, but IMHO N-gage was cooler in looks and comfort, AND it's got Red Faction. With Romero as a Developer, it will certainly be even cooler when they get more games.

The Shooters:
Unfortunatly I did not get to see DX2, but HL2 preview ROCKS!!! It's just amazing with those faces, very nice audio and graphics, and the physics seemed better than anything else out there (reminder: I missed DX2). I was personally very disappointed at doom 3. The graphics, apart from some very cool light effects, seemed sub-par by today's standards. The sound and what I saw of level design was very good though, I jumped as one of the monsters came out from a wall unexpectedly. Considering who the LD is on this one I think the looks will improve though.
The next Ghost Recon looked very neat, although not groundbraking. More of the same...
That goes for most of the games that I saw or tried, more of the same old stuff and very little ground braking styles or concepts, except maybe for XIII which looks like a cartoon/anime. It actually looks like a real cool concept, hard to describe as it is.
I really thought the new Starcraft game looked cool, but didn't get to take a closer look as I'm not that interested in consoles.

Unofficially:
I overheard some guys from Interplay talking while standing in one of the lines. It looks like they are making Baldur's Gate 3 even though they said they'd never do it! Way cool, if it's true.
That, and a lot of pretty girls, was e3 in a nutshell for me.

Baldur's Gate 3 would be cool if the Aurora engine wasnt so disappointing.

Did you happen to get a glimps of the upcoming MMO's? World of Warcraft and EQ2 are due out by Jan 04. That's probably what I'm most excited about currently.

Unfortunatly I only got to see the video of WoW, but what I saw looked... standard. There did not seem to be anything that set this game apart from the other MMOGs. Fight, level, fight, level, etc. ad nauseum. I must admit that I have not kept an eye on WoW, so maybe they have some gameplay features that make it stand out, but the video did not show it.

As for EQ2. DOH!
(I saw the stand in the distance, but one of the booth girls asked me about how her hair looked and I got completely distracted.)

Oh, and I forgot. I will be very surprised if Chrome pulls it off. It seems a looong way from finished so expect either an unfinished game or delays. It has a cool concept, but one that, IMHO, is difficult to accomplish. Especially with the big three coming out this year.

All those booths with hot girls at them. The game developers must think we are all lonely computer geeks and that watching the girls do their little dances is all the action we ever ge...

Ummm nevermind, sounds about right

Maybe that's why Comdex is at the same time as the porn convention.

She'd gotten soda or something in it..., but her hair looked fine to me 😉. It was the brunette Midway girl while she was on a brake... (one of the nicest of the booth babes IMHO).

How did you miss DX2? I'd think there'd be a bigger crowd for DoomIII and HL2.

Also, you're a jouralist/webmaster right? I'm neither and I wanna know if there's any way I can ever go (sigh).

--Thanks to my inside connections to Nvidia, I'm using the AGP 16X GeforceFX7500+ TiMX Pro GPU with 512megs of DDRIV ram Special Edition featuring S and T and U Video Output! Beat that!--

I missed DX2 only due to time. I am actually a System/Network Engineer and got in through having some contacts in the biz 😉.
There were a lot of underage, obvious non-insiders and all it takes is to have a contact that can order an extra badge... If you start working in the field you'll get contacts soon enough...
