My internal dvd rom will not with blank dvd in windows 7

Hello,
i have windows 7 and my internal dvd rom will only work with dvds that have bytes installed on disk but will not reconize a blank dvd

The burning software does not see that there is a disk to write to?
Did you check if your drive is a DVD burner as well as a reader? If it's a new system it should be, but you did not post any system specs.
