My iPod 5th gen won't turn on even when plugged in

I am having a lot of trouble with a Apple iPod Touch 5th generation. When pressing/holding the home button, or power button, the iPod doesn't turn on. I have only had it for a bit over a year and I was expecting much more out of it. Please help! 🙁

OK, first off, does anything happen when you click & release the Home or power buttons? As long as it's not shut down, you should be getting the lock screen when you hit either button.

Second, unless the 5th gen iPods work completely differently from the 4th gen iPods (which I have) or the iPhones (have iPhone 6, & the buttons work pretty much identically to my iPod), you don't use the Home button to turn an iPod on & off. The power button turns it back on.

Third, are you 100% sure that you actually turned it off in the first place? Unless you really messed with the settings, holding the power button down while it's turned on only brings up the red slider bar...& until you swipe that bar, it doesn't turn off...

Yes iPod touch 5th gen, what do you mean by hold button, power button?

Fourth, even if it's turned off, connecting your iPod to your PC will still allow it to be recognized by the PC. So even if you somehow can't get it to turn on, you should be able to access it from iTunes & at least back up your iPod & its apps.

Finally...whether it's an iPod or an iPhone, as soon as you plug it into power it will turn back on. So even if you can't get the power button to respond, simply plugging the charger cable in will get it to respond.

So...if none of the above methods works, that means there's a problem with your iPod. And I mean something more than a broken Home or Power button. I mean a bad battery, broken charging port, or something else. So if none of these methods work, check to see if it's under warranty, as maybe Apple can replace it (or at least test it to see what the issue is).

Well is there a button or switch on the top. If there is does it say hold? If it does if its on / orange you cant do anything until you switch it the other way
