ditch the velcipator and set up a raid0 with 2 raptors for about the same cost

keep the storage drive

The velociraptor will be faster for his system than a pair of raptors in raid - slower sequential, but faster random access for a low queue depth, which is the normal kind of operation for a home computer.

Forget those expensive, small, "fast" harddrives. Even the fastest 15000rpm scsi drives are far slower than the slowest solid state drive. SSD is in the freefall stage of price drop, and will become affordable fairly soon. Make do with a slow but large storage drive until you can get a ssd.

nice choice of video card and run raid 0, specially if you game it would cut loading times of lvls in half!

Not at all. SSD's are junk (except the highest end ones) on random writes. For reads they are incredible, but in any case, they are tremendously expensive. The Velociraptor is a good compromise - higher capacity and cheaper than SSD's, but quite a bit faster than a standard 7200RPM drive.

Ditch the Dominator Memory, You can pic up some Mushkin DDR2 1066, that runs at lower voltage and the same timings for less money. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146785. Thats the memory I use with my setup, so I can vouch that it will do default timings at 2.0v, and runs fairly cool. In fact with a bit of extra voltage you may even be able to pull off even lower timings with that memory.

I agree with some others on the VelociRaptor, don't get one unless you're gonna run it in RAID, otherwise it's a waste. I agree with others on the cpu HSF.

As far as Mass Effect goes, I'd wait to play it too heavily until they come out with a patch to fix the damned gpf crashes.

Not a bad build. I wish the memory was that cheap when I got my 4GB. You don't need the fan but I doubt it will lower the price. I suggest you stay with the 1066 if you plan to OC the chip as that will allow you more leway in OCing than PC6400 will.

GPU and CPU are both great choices. I envy you on the GPU front as I want one of the 4870X2s or the 4870 1GB.

Case is always rated highly so I guess its a good choice. PCU will work great.

Overall its a nce rig. Enjoy it.
