My newly built PC doesn't detect my Ethernet cable

I just built a gaming PC with a MSI Z87-G45 and Windows 8.1. I am using a Radeon r9 290 and intel core i7 4770K. I plugged my Ethernet cable into the input in the back of the case, for some reason my PC isn't detecting it. Thanks for the help!

Do I need to use the disk that came with the Mobo and install all of the drivers?

There are no drivers to download on the disc.
