[SOLVED] My NVME SSD Writes 1GB of Data every time I Boot.

Hi, I have a Samsung 970 Evo 1TB NVME SSD which I have purchased just a month ago. I'm concerned with the lifespan of my SSD,so I have started checking Total Writes Usage in CrystalDisk Info. To my surprise I have written 5TB of Data whereas the actual data I've written is only around 3TB.

So I started Investigation to see from where this extra data is getting written and found that every time I boot my system 1GB of data is getting written to my SSD. I don't see overall increase of space in any of my Drives so probably this 1GB is getting written and Deleted at boot time. So Is this normal behavior or is something wrong my system? I have disabled all the startup programs but that didn't change anything. Can you please help?

The first few days/weeks of an SSD is far more write heavy than later. You're still getting it set up, etc.
That curve flattens out after a while.

Checking once per day is far too often. Check that once a week.

Also, 1GB per day - That is 1,000 days (3 years) to reach 1TB. The warranty limit (not actual lifespan) on the 1TB 970 EVO is 600TBW.
600*3 = 1800.

That 1GB per day will run out the warranty in the year 3821.

Hi, Thanks for letting me know that is not lifespan but warranty. I was actually bit confused about this. Also it's not 1GB per day but 1GB per boot, so if I shutdown and startup my system 10 times a day, 10GB of data is getting written per day just for booting. I am okay with this it if it's normal and necessary but if it's the work of some program/service and if there is a possibility to stop it then I want to terminate it.

I have both windows10 and Ubuntu in this SSD. Even if I restart my Ubuntu 10 times it doesn't write any data but it's only happening when I boot Windows.

Hi, Thank you very Much for your help :) My windows Paging file size is set to 4GB. Now I have changed it to "No Paging file" and restarted 4 times and no data is being Written now.

You actually need a page file.
Given sufficient RAM, it is rarely used.

But it really should be there. Any crashes, it dumps the memory to the pagefile temporarily.

Again, 1GB is infinitesimal in the context of a SSD lifespan and use.
If we take you 1GB per boot, and boot up 10 times per day...that reduecs my 1800 years to 180.
The year 2201. I think its safe...;)

Haha It is indeed long. After researching a bit, I've now set paging size to 1.5 GB as the recommended size is 800MB. Now 1GB is being used for every 3 boots and I'm completely fine with it 😊. Thank you once again for your help.
