today i picked up asus p4s533 512 samsung ddr 333 ram p4 1.6a cpu from local toronto store

i overclocked it to 2479mhz with stock hsf that intel gave me, asus probe reports 42c cpu and 37c mobo.

i have one question
what memory ratio should i use?

use the 4:5 ratio...that'll make your ram run at about 388mhz (194mhz ddr)...which should be ok for your samsung memory...i doubt your ram will be able to do 4:6 because it would be running at 465mhz (232 ddr).

i managed to get it perfectly stable at 2412mhz and ram ratio 4:5. temperature 56c max with seti@home and voltage 1.525v core.

*slobbering* mmmmmm.... I gotta get me one of those. I can't believe that these NW cores are so good at overclocking. A 800+MHz overclock is almost like nothing to these cores!! That's amazing. I pity anyone who actually buys a P4 2.4GHz.

What's the deal with lampshades, I mean it's a lamp, why would you want a shade?

i've got mine oc'ed @ 2464ghz (154fsb)
i use auto for the fsb/mem ratio. i cant say if this is the best setting but i can tell u it works stable for me.

ps im sure asus probe works out fine as it corresponds to the temp shown on my digital doc (a temp monitor bay)

I am building my first computer.

I have the ASUS P4S533 mobo and Samsung PC2700 333MHZ memory. Video Card is Gainward T14200 128MB.

I would like to overclock my P4 1.8A to the level of performance that Danisk has achieved.

I am a bit confused about the jumper settings. Could someone please let me know how to set the jumpers (Please be specific).

Thanks for your help.

you mean for overclocking?
if so...you dont need to overclock usin jumpers...theres an advance menu in the BIOS that lets you overclock...just set the FSB, voltages, etc. there.

Thanks for your quick response.

The board has a few different jumpers. I am not sure what all of them do. I read the instructions but am somewhat confused.

I would prefer to use the BIOS instead of manually setting jumpers where possible.

My questions is, should I leave all of the jumper settings as they are (new board bought board from Newegg) or would there be any benefit to manually changing any of the jumper settings that could not be achieved thrrough the BIOS.

id jsut like to say that i have the p4s533, 12mb stick of samsung 2700 and a 2.4 chip
i got the chip and the ram for free (damn i love frineds at intel :) ) but i got the chip to only 2.9 ghz. i dont think i can go any higher on my bus cause i have a damn dialup connectiona nd my modem doesnt like the higher pci speeds. i have never changed the memory ratio. will it be theat much of a performance increase to got to the 4 to 5 ratio?
i would also like ot saay that i am very happy with all those products and would recomend them to anyone looking to buy a new system.

the motherboard itself should be in jumperless mode (meaning you dont need to adjust jumpers) by default...you should be able to adjust the values in the BIOS right out of the box...so you dont have to change any jumpers...
i doubt you will get any performance difference between jumper mode and jumperless mode...i think you should just mess w/ the values using the BIOS...just for simplicity...

lol...i hope you're not running win xp on that thing...

your ram may be holding you back on your cpu overclock...try setting the ratio to 3:4 (or 4:3...i dont remember) and try overclocking your P4 again...you might be able to get higher clock speeds...

Great News!

My old Abit mobo (BH6) also had a soft BIOS. I'm glad that I don't have to worry about setting jumpers manually on my new Asus board..

Thanks again.

I finally got a corsair ddr 433 mhz and combined it with a p4 2.2a cpu using vapor chill (refriderated cold water) cooling and got it stable to 3.1~ ghz which is not bad. I had to do a voltage mod, now it is set to 1.95v. I'm planning to get a 3ghz p4 chip and try to overclock it to at least 3.6ghz. The best way to overclock a p4 is to use at least a pc2700 and a voltage mod. 1.9v wont damage the chip but dont try and go over 2v or it might fry ur chip.

Ah the irony of "AMD_Man" joining into the many people saying how much they love the way their northwoods overclock so high.

just kidding, no intent to start a flame war
