NASCAR in Sunnyvale, CA and short review

Just wanted to let those in the Bay Area know that there is a brand new
NASCAR at Tasty Subs on Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale. I went there
to play MB and Nascar has replaced it. They also have a T3 (blah), LOTR
and Junkyard.

That said, here are a few of my first impressions...the machine was
obviously brand new and the ball really bounced off the fresh rubbers
which was a good thing as most route pinball machines rarely get
re-rubbered. Last time I was at Tasty Subs, the Junkyard flipper
rubbers were nearly gone in the corners which rendered them practically
useless.

The playfield is very well lit, and has a lot of color. The magnetic
race track wasn't too bad and I didn't mind the ball going around for a
loop at the start of each ball unlike some people. Unfortunately this
makes the playfield somewhat narrower and there are fewer shots to go
for. As said before, there are a lot of airballs and this machine was
no exception. Unfortunately one landed in the race-track loop and went
down the drain rather than looping around. Hopefully this will be fixed
with a software upgrade. Also, I thought the ball would go around the
track a lot faster ala Getaway, but it doesn't . Overall, I found the
game to be pretty easy. I'm no wizard, but on my first 4 games, I
popped it twice and also got a match!

Another thing I don't understand is how pinball machines can go from
$3200 in the late '90's to $4K today. NASCAR doesn't really have many
toys to add to the cost. Oh, and I almost forgot, that is definately
not Sammy Hagar singing 'I Can't Drive 55'. Whoever put that singer
into a recording booth should be fired! It is painfully aweful. With
that said, I know peoplw are wondering about buying a NASCAR NIB. My
advise if it is a car theme you are after, get a Getaway HSII instead
otherwise use the 4K and get the best machine ever made...Attack From
Mars!

Are there any other NASCAR machines in the area? That one seems to
have developed a fault with the test car: it gets stuck in the lowered
position. Kind of takes a lot of fun out of the game.

Yes, I'd love to see a setting added to the software to disable that "I
Can't Drive 55" song!

About pinball game prices increasing: I think the price of everything
has increased recently. Have you seen the price of brand-new video
games? Good lord.... One of the things P2K tried was making games
kittable, but unfortunately this failed. I think it had a potential to
lower prices by not making operators buy the cabinet/boards/etc. all
over again, when all they want is a new game.
