Hi 😉
I set up my second PC recently and I'm accessing it by RDP trough home LAN.
My current router (some cheap 10/100Mbps) and it seems to be too slow to handle RDP connection. (yeah it works, but I'm expecting (much?) more smoothness from it)
My internet connections is this slow that every single one will be ok for this. But I guess that 1Gb LAN is what I exactly need. (I do have 1Gb's LAN cards in PC's I want to connect, no problem here).
I'm playing some online games, but I see no need to spend extra money on "gaming" router; as I said - my internet is basically crap.

tl;dr ->
Will 1Gb router be noticeably better that 100Mb one while using RDP trough LAN ?
If it will - any good picks for the money ? (WiFi + 4 LAN ports or more)

Also, how does it work: 1Gb/s = 100/1000 or rather 1000/1000 ?
I'm asking because most of 100Mb/s routers are 10/100.
Another question: There are 10/100/1000/10000 etc versions od ethernet cable. How to check what cable I have ?

Sorry if my English isn't perfect, I can't help that 🙁

Looks like a cool idea, thanks. Still, current router is starting to work worse everyday, so I'll be upgrading it anyways. Any ideas which one will fit my needs?

The best way to check your cables is to look at the printing on them. Do they say TIA on them? Do they say cat5e? If they are home made then you should double check the color code of the wiring. The order of the colored wires in the RJ45 is important. Google 568B color code.

This is certainly an inexpensive way to upgrade. It should improve RDP performance. If your cables are CAT5e or CAT6, they will work fully with gigabit speeds. It should say right on the jacket of the cable what sort it is. Unless it's really old, it will most likely be CAT5e.
The 10/100 indicates that it can run at either 10 or 100 mbps. It's unnecessary information anymore because all modern network equipment is backwards compatible. If it can handle gigabit (1000mbps) it can also handle 100mbps and 10mpbs.

Depending on your current router and internet speed, it may still be worth your while to upgrade to a gigabit router. A poor router can make slow internet even slower.
