Need advice on my build

Sep 12, 2011
I'm planning to build a gaming rig that will be able to play the games of today and the near future. I know down the road I'll have to upgrade but I'm talking about games like Skyrim, Mass effect 3, Rage, etc.

Case- Corsair 600t

Motherboard- ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU- AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDE00ZFBGRBOX

Hard Drive- Western Digital RE4 WD5003ABYX 500GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Power Supply- CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 (CMPSU-850HX) 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Video Card- EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1461-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Video Card- XFX HD-687X-CNFC Radeon HD 6870 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Memory- G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

P.S: I've read from people that I should get a Phenom II 4 and with the saved money i should get another graphics card. Or is it better to buy the Phenom II 6 right now instead of having to upgrade later.

What components should I change/keep?

I welcome any suggestions and thank you.

I wouldn't usually recommend it, but BullDozer is supposedly just a few days away and since your building AMD anyway, it might be worth just holding off for a week and seeing what's on offer. Im not saying its going to be much better, and ive no idea what sort of prices they will be, but its worth finding out i guess :)

He could at least get a server board an the 16-core BD chip if the desktop chips are a flop ;)

But yes, waiting if possible will at least give you the ability to make a more informed decision.
