Need advice on possible upgrade

I'm currently wondering if its the right time to upgrade my gpu. I have the 7970ghz edition and I thought I would wait for 390x to come out but with these prices, its hard to pass up. I could get a 290x with alien isolation and star citizen for 300 on amazon right now or a gtx 780ti for 370 on newegg with borderlands; the pre sequel. Does anyone have any advice if the upgrade is worth it, and which one you'd choose if it was?

I own an MSI 970 and love it. The 780 Ti would have been the best choice before, but the 970 is the best choice now unless you want to spend ~$600 for a 980 or can find a 780 Ti Classified or Kingpin for a great price. But even if you found a cheap Kingpin, you still have to be OK with less VRAM and the higher power consumption and heat output (major factors when going SLI).

I would say go for a 970...

I'd go for the 780 Ti out of these two choices. The 290X is a good card, but they run very hot.

I would recommend a 970 instead of the 780 Ti. They are about the same price and you get less power consumption, less heat and an extra GB or VRAM. It's a good card.

The 390X will probably be another very hot card if the Asetek cooler is intended for use with the 390X.

really depends if you want to upgrade to those cards for about, maybe a 25% increase in performance? the 780ti will obviously the a bit more than that (maybe 35% faster?). the 7970 is still a good card. if its worth spending the money, do it up! otherwise, if you're playing games and enjoying them, then i would think twice and maybe wait for some new stuff to come out. hard decision as i kind of wanted to upgrade to a 290x from a 7970 but i really dont think its going to knock my socks off.

I was just looking at some benchmarks at anandtech, and the 970 seems to handily beat the 290x every time, and thats about where the 780ti would be. So I can assume the 970 would be at least equivalent to the 780ti. As far as frames, the 970 seems to get anywhere from 20 to 40 more frames than the 7970 on average. Would you get it?

I would say go for a 970 if you buy a new card. New features like MFAA will make this card even better, plus new drivers should boost performance some as well.

If you want to wait, that is fine, but don't expect the 390X any sooner than January.
