Hello friends
I have 1 TB WD black HDD currently installed in my system and soon I will run out of storage space so am planning on buying a 2TB WD Black HDD...I dont know much about RAID...what I want to know is that can I combine the 2TB HDD with my currently installed 1TB HDD and get a 3TB drive using RAID??

Solution

In the general consumer world, there are two words you need to know:

Don't bother

There are rarely valid reasons to mess around with any RAID config, unless you know you really need to.

Just add the new 2TB drive as another drive and drive letter. You will have full use of the whole 3TB space.
When you partition the drive to be part of a raid it wipes the drive. You would loose everything. Just add the second drive and us it. Don't do raid unless you are prepared to loose everything. Not recommended to use drives that are different in a raid. To do raid they all need to be the same series and capacity.
