Need advice: Which Case? P180 vs v1200

Oct 30, 2005
I need help. I have figured out my wish list at newegg, the only two things I'm not decided on are the PSU and the case.

I have an Antec Performance II series right now, pretty happy with it but it's just TOO LOUD. It's got about 6x80mm fans including PSU, 6800GT and CPU. I need a quieter machine, hence I was looking at the P180 from Antec. This seems like a decent case but yesterday I got a look at one in person in CompUSA and was dissappointed. The door looks really flimsy and overall it's nice but just too plasticky for my taste. The aluminium on the sides looks like a really thing skin and the buttons are really cheap plastic.

So my other choice was to say "screw it" and pop for the very expensive v1200 which looks great, but I'm worried about the noice. Since there's so many holes in this case I'm worried that it'll be loud.

Here's what I plan on putting into it:
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail - $164.00

eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - $345.00

Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply - Retail - $118.00

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model - $400 (dropped $70+ this week).

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Platinum System Memory Model OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K - Retail - $252.55

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3160812AS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM - 2x$92.00 = $184.00

I'd love some feedback on this as I'm about to order most of it today to take advantage of the Halloween sales.

So what alternatives are there for a silent good looking case that doesn't cost > $200 and is not flimsy?

Second queston: has anyone tried this PSU? I'm not sure it'll cut it as it's fairly new to the market, can I trust it?

If you're going to spend that much on a PSU, then I'd spend the few extra dolalrs to get the Seasonic S12 600 for $144 after MIR. That or the Enermax EG701AX-VE for $129 shipped. Both are in the recent THG PSU Stress test and performed very well. IRT the case - have you thought about modding it and putting in some 120mm fans instead of those 80mm? Save some money and have a good time with powertools....

I'd go with the Epox 9NPA+ SLI instead of the Asus.
