Need help choosing os on new build

No, get windows 8.1

Just install ClassicShell and you can use it just like Windows 7, with the additional benefits of longer support, better task manager, better DirectX support in future, etc. I really don't get why anyone would advise windows 7?

You can get any version you want. Depends on what your needs are. Unlike most, I like windows 8. I have a nice big touchscreen monitor and love the ability to use either touchscreen or the mouse and keyboard. It's all up to you. I'm not sure what the difference is with the home/professional, regular/premium versions. I believe with windows 7 home, the premium version comes with windows media player and a few other things I can't remember.

Windows 7 home premium or 8.1 will be fine for most users.
Which you pick may be gated by your tolerance for the windows 8.1 tile interface.
Personally, I dislike it for mouse navigation even with the classic shell app that gives you some sort of a start menu.

I know what formatting is but i dont know exactly how to do it the correct way that will allow me to boot win 7 on a new mobo easily
There is probably a discussion can i get a link or a good video?

To install Windows 7 using the Custom option and formatting the hard disk

To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc.

Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, insert the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive, and then shut down your computer.

Restart your computer.

Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.

On the Install Windows page, enter your language and other preferences, and then click Next.

If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start your computer from a Windows 7 installation disc.

On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms, and then click Next.

On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.

On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, click Drive options (advanced).

Click the partition that you want to change, click the formatting option you want to perform, and then follow the instructions.

When you've finished formatting, click Next.

Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows 7, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.

Do i need to wipe and format the hard drive first before putting it on a new mobo and before i install win 7 that i bought. because the win 7 on this hard drive was pre installed on the computer when i bought it

Alright so a quick recap so i know i got everything right
1. buy the os from amazon
2. wipe the current hard drive (do i have to partition anything?)
3. setup up the new mobo and everything else
4. boot from dvd/cd
5. install win 7
6. enjoy?

1. Boot from the dvd.
2. pick the option to format your hard drive.
3. clean install windows.
4. install only the drivers that come with your motherboard cd.
Do not take the easy "install all" option or you will install lots or trialware and junk.
5. activate windows when all is good.
