Hello,

I am trying to change my PSU from a DPS-475cb-1 to a DPS-1050cb. The problem (at least I think that is the problem), I am having is that the 24pin on the DPS-1050 only has 20 actual pins/wires (it does seem as if this is how it is supposed to be and not a defect with my PSU). I can plug that into the 24 pin connector onto the board (hp z400 board) but when I try to start the computer I get the 5 beep error code, which is supposed to be for the memory. There is nothing wrong with the memory, as I can switch back to the DPS-475 and everything runs perfectly. That leads me to believe that the problem is the 4 missing pins on the DPS-1050. Is this simply a case of the board not being compatible with this PSU? Or something else? Anything I can do to rectify the situation, any adapter or such?

Thanks!

omizy,

Have you solved this issue? I've got a Z400 motherboard running in a custom built PC with a Corsair 600W PSU. The Z400 power supply is proprietary and uses a slightly different wiring scheme in the 4-pin part of the 24-Pin.
To get the Corsair PSU to work with the Z400 board, I bought a cheap 24-Pin extender and modded two wires to make an adapter. The system works completely fine at the moment and I've had no issues.

When I was testing the adapter, I accidentally disconnected the modded wires and the system posted but also gave the 5-Beep memory error like you described. My best guess is that the two modded pins I changed supplied power to the Memory.

If you're still looking for a solution to this issue, I can provide links to a couple of guides and wiring diagrams that helped me modify my extender into a fully working adapter.

Good luck!
