need P4 3.2C OC help

I have P4 3.2C
asus p4c800e dlx
kingston hyperx dual ch. kit 2x512mb pc-4000

At the lowest possible cpu voltage (I think its 1.5500V) and DDR voltage 2.75 I can hit 232mhz fsb x16=3712mhz completely stable. However, if i go up just 1 more mhz I get a black screen after I type in my password for windows xp then my computer restarts. I tried upping the cpu voltage to 1.5625 and got the same results, went up 1 more same thing, and again after that with no luck.

CPU temp is 32C idle, 36C under heavy load(which has seemed to be the same through the OC and at stock rates) case temp is about 36-38C.

I read that when issues arise to up the cpu voltage, but how much do you up it? I've seen posts on the net as high as 1.90V. I just haven't had any luck with the small incraments in the bios and places have said to do it 1 incriment at a time so I started getting confused.

Can I take a slightly bigger step?

What's the limit for a safe voltage on a northwood core?

I had to drop to 229mhz FSB to perform a full 3dmark05 test. At 229 the cpu scored a 4525
at standard it scored a 4276

Would it be worthwhile trying to run at 200FSB and CL2 rather than CL2.5 on a higher FSB?

Try raising your memory voltage instead of the cpu voltage.

Figure out whats limiting you - the CPU or the ram, change the ram ratio and see how much further it goes. Your temps are really low compared with my northwood but thats with stock cooling and also thanks to the temps we get here. Your lucky - my 2.6c skims 3.125ghz tops, no further.

Oh you not lucky! 2.6c usually do 3.25-3.4 easy on stock cooler!

Running the ram at 167mhz instead of 232mhz it loaded xp ok but once I tried to run an app the computer restarted.

I also noticed after turning the cpu voltage to auto that running at 227mhz fsb and watching the voltage it was anywhere between 1.55V-1.616V.

the auto option for asus boards means "default" - 1.525v (or 1.475v for 3.2's????) - what your seeing is the vcore fluctuating like normal, plus the error margin - try anything below 1.7v and watch the temps, my 2.6 has seen the worse half of 60ºc (69ºc max) for hours without fault but perhaps risky? time i got a better cooler.

I've never seen any of my temps exceed 40C (ambient case, cpu, MB, etc) with the exception of my 6800 GT which is stays between 42-49C

that was in summer here in Australia - 40ºc is like the outside temprature and im using stock cooling, aswell as a crappy P4 2.6c + albatron board - "+0.1v" - 1.65v (too much but no options between) and only a mere 200mhz extra to 2800 (can reach like 3.125ghz but mem drops back cause im using ddr400)

anyhow - the man wants help with his machine not details about my crappy batch of 2600c's

I don't think I have an option for 2.8V, I think it jumps between 2.65,2.75,2.85V

232 seems to be the last time it works out.
at 233 3dmark05 won't complete the whole test.
At 234 on up the computer restarts after logging into windows xp.

So I decided to stick with standard voltages and dropped down to 227, I didn't really figure the extra jump to 232 was worth it.
