Hello,

My computer is pretty Beefy. i5 quad core with 4 gigs of ram. a 500w power supply, and a decent cooling system on the cpu. however...I have a ATI5570 HD 1gig PCIe vid card. I play a new game called Tribes Ascend and I have to play it on low to minimal settings for graphics and still only get maybe 15-20 FPS. Is it my video card that is causing the issue like I suspect?

Well there can be to things happening. 1. Your Graphics card is still a little power hungry. the 500W isn't the best thing for a Graphics card. infact its bare minimum. 2. Your GPU just aint cutting it. So you can sleep on it and decide which route you want to try but i don't see a solution of No spend money from my view point

The 5570 will eat a max of 40w. It's not the PSU at all unless he has some crappy $10 budget PSU. The GPU is the problem, it's pretty weak.

500w is plenty for all but the enthusiast cards if its a good PSU. The manufacturer wattage recommendation is incredibly bloated so they don't have dummies who don't know better slapping an HD 6950 into their computer with a 300w PSU that they bought for $15

GPU = Graphics Processing Unit. The chip held on the graphics card that actually does the processing.

If your PSU is a good quality unit, these cards would be great and fit your budget:

^EVGA is the best brand

If your PSU is junk, upgrade with part of the budget then use the rest on a slightly less powerful card.

well..I spent between $100-$150 for the Power supply. I don't like buying cheap *** for my computer..lol..(althought sometimes its needed). But the Graphics card was bought as a present to me. It wasn't TOO expensive and it wasn't cheap at the time either. I'm just lookin to getting something to upgrade it so I can actually get the performance that is warranted for the kinda high quality computer I have built.
