I'm just starting to get into computers and i was wondering about something. My current motherboard is a AM3+ 970 (ATX) with an FX-6300. If i wanted to use an Intel, id have to get a motherboard thats supports intel and fits the model of it. would i have to get a new case for the a new motherboard? Or is it okay as long as the motherboard is an ATX?

Solution
As long as you have an ATX motherboard, you're good, though Intel and AMD boards do use different mounting mechanisms for the fans (I believe it also varies amongst generations) if you want to keep yours.

Also keep in mind that if you want to go to a form factor that's not ATX, that will work as well.

Solution
The only other concern would be the front panel connectors...an old case might only have usb 2.0 connectors for example. Not a huge deal, but just something you should be aware of with an older case. Otherwise, atx is atx.
