I'm not sure if this is in the right forum but I figured it is hardware related.
I just built my first computerand now I have a slight problem / annoyance. I bought an ASUS PCE N13 Card for internet. My router is one the main floor and my computer is in the basement so ethernet is not possible. I've had this card for a week and its terrible. When the computer is sitting on my desk it is bearable, but when I have it on the ground its horrible. Weird thing is that it shows connections of 3 bars, but no internet. I'm planning to return this card.
Now, I currently have a Rogers modem that is also a wireless router (I will get model number and specs when I get home). The wireless isn't great at all, as speedtests in my basement are slow compared to near the router. So I decided to look into some hardware and here is what I came up with:

This router would plug into my modem. What do you guys think of this? The reviews seem good and it is on sale.

This would plug into my computer in the basement. I think a PCI card would't work because when I have it on the floor, the connection is crappy. Do you think this solution would work for me? What other solutions can you recommend? Possibily cheaper? 😛
Thanks!
