Hello everyone, I am looking for a new PC gaming build I would like to game at 4k at max settings but if I cannot do that with this budget 1440p is fine. I need basically everything as my old PC and components are 7+ years old. If you think I should wait for any upcoming deals or major suspected price drops I would be fine with that. I typically build a PC and try to use it for as long as possible of course not opposed to doing upgrades along the way.

I prefer less RGB and quietness a plus if possible with that said I don't want an AIO unless you really recommend it. In my experience air cooling is superior at keeping temps but I don't build PCs all that often to really have the statics to compare.

Approximate Purchase Date: Between now and 2 weeks.

Budget Range: $3000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming , Work station mostly for side gigs nothing too resource intensive. Web / video.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes - not have any preferences really w/e would work best for 4k and a decent refresh rate bang for buck is what I typically go for. Might just use my old monitor as a 2nd monitor its a samsung 24" 1080p.

Parts to Upgrade: All

Do you need to buy OS:
Yes win 10 or 11 don't really care.
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Any - I am USA based.

Location:
Las Vegas, Nevada - no micro centers around me.

Parts Preferences: Best for gaming.

Overclocking: Not at first only would do it if needed as system ages.

SLI or Crossfire: NO

Your Monitor Resolution: Currently using 24" Samsung 1080p I know its super old so w/e is most preferred now a days for 4k or 1440p gaming.

Additional Comments:
Anti RGB is a plus and quiet components if they aren't too expensive.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Gaming PC is 7 years old (i5 4690k, 1070 TI)

Looking to finally update and play newer games at max settings. Ark survival evolved, BG3, POE2, etc... I game hop a lot and play most games that are new or just came out.

Currently using an IKEA alex drawer desk setup which I love. If you have any decent monitor setup tips for it that would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if I should wall mount it or some boomarm or desk etc...

Thanks in advance if I missed anything let me know.

Thanks I don't like the RGB in the case but I suppose they can just be turned off.

any monitor recommendations? and will this run most games at 4k at max settings? Sorry, I am a noob when it comes to hardware requirements for certain thresholds.

There's a black RGB version of that case, a white RGB version of that case and then there's the black no RGB version of that case ... that's the one in the build.

Nice build by Why_Me. Just a minor suggestion, I'd lean more towards 7800x3D, it'll have a better chance standing against test of time with it's extra cache.
Anyone whose primary usage is gaming with budget to include it that doesn't go with the 7800X3D right now is shooting themself in the foot, to be sure.

Sorry Why_ME. When I followed the link I must of clicked the wrong model after the fact. I see it now case looks clean. Thanks for your help and monitor suggestion.

Would any additional case fans be needed ?

It's only $100 more it looks like would anything else in the build need to be adjusted to fit this CPU?

I was reading windows has some cheap keys you can buy which will save 100$ or something? Is that still the case or no?

Cool Thanks.

It seems like SSDs are so cheap now a days if I want to add more storage I suppose I just buy an additional m.2 NVMe (Crucial P5 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ) and that would be fine?

After that in future I suppose I just add drives the old school way via sata cables?
Find a board with two M.2 heatsinks.

Asus TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI $269.99

Or go with a SATA SSD for your storage.

Crucial MX500 2TB 2.5" SSD $79.98

Another motherboard could be this one with 3 Nvme ports + heatsinks. Top separate heatsink and lower larger heatsink sharing between the two.

Aorus Elite AX boards from GB are known to be pretty solid.

Why would you recommend SATA SSDs to anyone with more M. 2 slots available? Plenty of M.2 drives do fine without a heatsink,, and the ones that overheat and slow down are still faster than SATA drives in most if not all scenarios. Further, you can buy most with a pre-attached heatsink, or add a cheap aftermarket HSF if the board doesn't provide one...

SATA is an absolute last resort for more storage space, and that's been true for years now.

if 3k is the budget id swap the 7700 for the 7800x3d and look at the x670e boards over the b650's ..

dont get me wrong the 7700 is a super little cpu but more so if working to a lesser budget with the b650e

I wouldnt count out the thermal right phantom spirit 120 dual tower cooler either i should get mine in a day or two and with be slapping it on the 7800x3d and seeing if its better than my noctua NH-U12A cooler!!

Paid $125aud for the phantom spirit 120 evo so its all black with a little ARGB from ali express using pay pal vs $240aud for the Noctua !!

The Phantom Spirit is like $35 in the US, so either AUD is doing worse than I thought, y'all's prices are just that crazy, or you got robbed. It's a good HSF though.

the phantom spirit 120 evo which is the all black one ( so no silver fin stack all completely black ) which best ive seen is ali express for 125 plus taxes ..

In general Australia gets screwed with exchange rates/taxes ..
the MSI suprim liquid x24 4090 is currently 1999usd at newegg in aus its currently at $3500 aud

I can get the stock thermalright phantom spirit 120se for around the $70 to $80aud price range But the EVO is only available at ali express ( and i wanted the all black over the sliver fin stack ones )

Need only look at some of my builds in the members builds thread to see im pretty anal about my builds !!

You may have the 2 mixed up the peerless assassin which has the 6 heat pipes is the cheaper one the phantom spirit which looks almost identical but has the 7 heat pipes is the more expensive one!!

Ok I updated the list with the recommendations and added keyboard + mouse / speakers

Anything else I should take note of before purchasing?

Swap the two 2tb p5s for a single 4tb WD SN850X. That way you'll have a better drive and free up a M.2 slot for future upgrades.

Also drop the speakers and get a cheap sound bar. Something like this JBL would be a big improvement, assuming you have desk space for it - https://electronics.woot.com/offers/jbl-bar-2-0-channel-soundbar-4

Ok I have never used a sound bar for PC. I have plenty of desk space ikea alex drawer setup.

That one is sold out.

Is this one acceptable?

Hi, Guys so I ordered most of the stuff and was curious. I see a lot of avaiable fan spots for the Lancool 216 case. Is there a general rule to how many fans you should have or you just kind of base it off the temps ur getting and add fans as required?

Hi again guys, So I am putting the PC together now and have a question.

The RX 7900 XTX requires 3 8pin power connectors. The PSU MSI 1000w only has 2 available as the CPU requires 2 8 pins as well.but it does have some odd high voltage 12VHPWR to 6+2pin PCIe is it safe to use this?

Unless I can use the daisy chain to plug it in but was under the impression that nots good. As they do provide a cable with 1 8pin split into 2 6+2pins.

Basically I have the cables like in this image.

1 of the top image and 2 of the bottom.
