The idea is that for the small extra cost now( he is already looking at $160 boards) the life extension on the gaming rig is one whole 16x extra card minimum for a 3 slot board. compared to a gx board that only has 1 full 16x slot.

Well one more thing that I would like to clear is that there is no significant real world performance difference when cards run in x8x8 and x16x16 mode...
It will just be very few fps drop, which is not noticeable...
And the mobos he has chosen all have 2 or more pcie slots, thus having an option of future crossfire...

And he is from philippines so getting items from ebay US can pose problems...

there is no significant real world difference now, but a GPU or 2 down the line maybe a different story.

maybe the problem here is I look at my system builds from a future perspective, the mobo most of all. looking at a system w/ the gx chipset running at 8x8x as a platform doesn't seem like he best option to me. When you are looking at a lower end card like a 4770 you know you are going to be stopped at
2 4770 which should last a while but with the fx board you don't have to stop there a 3rd or a 4th $100 card is a cheap upgrade or you have the option to go heavier with a next gen card that requires a 16x slot. sure you say the gx can do that but then you are stuck there.

and yes you can speculate all you want about availability of fx boards and ebay availability around the world but until the originator says gee I can't get that here for a reasonable cost it is just that, speculation.

Well I would partly agree with changing 4770 to more powerful card but that is left to the OP as it would be limited by his budget...
But still I think there is a long time until the graphics card would start utilizing the x16x16 bandwidth...and by then he might buy a new PC who know...
