Ive had my Intel core 2 duo now for over 3 years and I thought it was time for an upgrade to get Battlefield 3 seeing that I have windows xp and can't play it because of no Dirext 11 support. I thought might as well buy a new rig for good graphics instead of installing windows 7 on this thing. Here is what ive come up with

Intel core I7 980 3.33ghz, six core cpu
Asus Geforece GTX580 DirectCU II PCI-E 2.0 1536mb
900W antex current gaming supply
16gb Corsair low profile vengeance 240-pin DDR3
Windows 7 pro 64bit
Coolmaster v10 universal cooler
240gb force series 3 SSD, read 550mb's
Gigabyte GA-x58A-UD3R CoolMaster 690 II nvidia edition tower.

I am looking for some feed back on parts. If something doesn't go please let me know
My budget is $3000.

Cheers

Look at sticky on the top of the forum to see how to ask opinions better.

But for now 3000 on a system will be more then enough for a rig to play BF3

You dont need 16GB RAM 8 will do (if you got the money then hey go for it by the 16GB as long as it is dual) i5 2500k will be perfect alonger with the Hyper 212 cooler, get an ASRock Gen3 mobo with SLI capability, 1tb HDD, any $20 CD/DVD or go the extra mile and get blu-ray if you want. You might want to grab another 580 in the future to better performance and or play games that come out in the future

what resolution are you playing at? can u put a link to your monitor if you have one already?

get 2 6950's and an i5 2500k (2500k is a better gaming cpu than the 980 and much cheaper) and call it a day. it will max out bf3 at 1080p no problem. ill outline you a build when im in front of a computer (im on a phone right now)

A few upgrades you might want to do depending on your own personnel preference:

Case
SSD (get a 240 like you stated in your first post, stay with the Crucial M4 though)
PSU I think an 850W would give you more headroom (not too good with PSU calculations)

Besides that I know its way below your original budget but you can pocket it for later or go to the Sept 2011 $2000 build
