I'm going to build my first system, and would like to hear your opinions on the build specs. Any and all thoughts are welcome.

Thanks for replying butremor. I am not ashamed to say that I am fairly green with respect to building a computer. I have done some minor repair work and component replacements, but never built one from scratch.

Can you help me understand exactly why half of the build is wrong? I ask only to try and erase some of my own ignorance.

I've read many of the i5 vs i7 arguments, and that hyper-threading is not really needed, or expected to be needed for gaming before becoming obsolete, and that the i5 is as good as the i7 for that purpose. I intend on using this system for more than gaming however, and I tried to convey that in my original post.

Thanks again for your help.

Crucial ssd - never saw people advising it to other people on this forum.
Too expensive cooler, and personally i prefer air.
Sound card may need only some music editor/creator. Motherboard already has one.
Too powerful supply, why waste money?

I chose the SSD based on reviews and cost. I'll take a closer look at it though.

Agree with the sound card analysis though... was thinking of axing it anyway.

I chose the PSU and cooler with future expansion in mind. Might add a second GPU later, and I was kind of hoping to use the PSU over several years/builds.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this and recommend changes. The more I study this topic the more I realize I need to study more. 😀
