In need of a new build. My current PC is a 10 year old except for the GPU (MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6 GB GAMING X) will continue using this GPU until I can get my hands on the 3080

Would love to receive recommendations for my upcoming build that will be able to run smoothly with the 3080

Thank You!

Solution
Hmmm, I didn't think this thru very well. I'm not into 4k. Don't have the monitor for it. Don't see myself purchasing one. I'm happy with the ASUS - 24" LED FHD 144hz Monitor. Seems like the 3070 card is the best option.

My current build is:
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 3.3GHz
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler
MSI GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GTX 1060 GAMING

I feel like it's just time to purchase new parts for the new build. Now that...

What is your budget?
3080 is good for 4k gaming.
Anything less, and you can do better with a lesser card.
What are your old parts?
In what way are they not doing the job?
What kinds of games do you play?
Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

I feel like it's just time to purchase new parts for the new build. Now that the 3000 series have been annouced. I have an itch to purchase new hardware. My system is currently making noise. I recently had to swap re-insert the Ram to different slot due to not booting in their orginal slots. So that has me concerned.

My games are Open world RPG's, RTS, and heavy on the MMO's. With a new pc 3000 card i'll consider purchasing shooter games. I do that on console as of now. Don't see myself purchasing a PS5 at the moment.

If you dont have a 4K monitor you might just be better off with 3070 or even just wait for Big Navi..

A 3080 would be a waste for your monitor. Even a 3070 is a bit on the overkill side, to be honest, unless you are looking to play with RTX on. That could change things up. Check reviews of the 3080, with 1080p RTX on, before you buy, if using RTX is something you think you will want to do. Also 4th gen ryzen is only about 2-3 weeks away.

Personally I would go a good bit different. Cost you about 100 bucks more but some money could be recouped when you buy a RTX 3070 video card.

Gets you a better gaming processor for more FPS, 500GB M.2 drive for the OS and all your programs , and a full 1TB SSD just for games.

When you get a GTX 3070 (all your going to need for a 1080P monitor) put the 1060 and the gammaxx 400 cooler back in your current PC and sell it as a working PC.

Use your current D14 in the new build.
