Im working on updating my system and need some advice. I recently have upgraded to a Sapphire 1GB HD4870, and to a P5Q Pro motherboard. Currently I am running a c2d e6600, Im looking for something a lil newer. I play some games, encode video, and will use the comp as a Blu-Ray player. What would be a good cpu for these purposes? Also a new PSU would be nice...mainly just because I would like a modular one, and possibly a second HD4870 down the road just for kicks. Any suggestions on a good PSU?

depends on what you do more...play games or encode video. If you're looking for pure gaming performance:

it's an outstanding value and a great performer. I would suggest looking into overclocking if you'd like a performance boost. It will, of course, do fine in encoding, but if you want a little extra punch for that -

again, an outstanding value. Again, look into overclocking (my opinion)

Modular PSUs are generally more expensive. If you don't mind paying more money there are a few good modular models.

tbh probably not for your everyday tasks. What you might want to look into instead of buying a new processor, is buying a quality CPU cooler and attempt to overclock your 6600. I've heard good things about overclocking that CPU and you can get a huge boost in performance for only the ~$40 you would spend on a new HSF.

I actually have an Artic Cooling Freezer7 pro on it right now(stock one was too noisy and it ran kinda hot). I never have tried OCing it because my old board was junk. I could give it a try, see how high I can get it. Ill be sure to post some benches also.

Just got it to 3.2Ghz with temps around 40C which isnt too terribly bad. Performance gain is noticable. Might just have to hold off on the new CPU till prices come down a lil. Thanks for the advice though.
