New build, just missing video card and hdd!!

I have currently purchased everything (listed below) except a video card and a hard drive.


Processor: Intel core i5 3570K -- (OC to 4.2-4.4 probably). $190
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212+. $24
Mobo: ASRock z77 Extreme 4. $90
Graphics: ??????????????????
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8Gb 1600Mhz (low profile heat sinks). $53
Hdd: ??????????????????? - Only looking for SSD, I have an NAS with 2TB.
Psu: Corsair tx750v2. $78
Case: Haf 932. $113
Optical drive: Asus 24x

TOTAL: $567.34

Just recently did something big in my life so was wondering if splurging in a GTX 690 would be good in this system, as in I could use every aspect of it with my specs. Otherwise my fall-to card was the GTX 670 FTW.

^ That GTX 670 is a great card and would work well with his system... the problem being the massive backorder he'd have to wait for.

Where are you finding those kinds of prices in Canada? I've been looking all over and couldn't find deals like this.

Oh and go with the 670, if you really want the 690's performance, get two 670's. I would personally stick with a single 670.

+1 for the GTX 670. You will never need a GTX 690. You could consider the GTX 680, but for 100$ more it's really not worth it.

Personally I would get a Crucial m4. The reason? I own it myself 😉
The Mushkin Chronos will be perfectly fine!

the chip and board i crossed over to michigan and got them from micro center, everything else ive been price matching with memoryexpress, INCLUDING free shipping. memoryexpress price matches shipping separately, and hookbag has free shipping for orderds over 75$. i didn't buy all my parts in one go though, ive been hunting for the past month.

jacknaylor that card was on sale for 419$ the other day but decided to see if i should wait. since im not in a rush to complete the PC think i should wait a month or two on the HDD? and is it worth it to splurge on the GTX 690 since the rest of my build i only got up to 567$?

You absolutely would, the 690 contains 2 of the GPUs inside the 680, so it's kind of 2x the performance of one 680. But the 690 is just way too powerful for most builds. If you demand a lot, then maybe.

As long as you're not an extremely demanding gamer, you would never need a 690. A 680 would be plenty, and so would a 670.
Save the money you could've used on a 690, so it will be easier for you to upgrade your GPU or any other parts in your computer in the future!

A 690 is almost double the performance of a 680 (due to being two 680's in one), and a 680 is a tiny bit above 670. You shouldn't be noticing any difference in most games between these three cards since the improvement is going from like 120 to 140 fps instead of 30 to 50 fps.

That's a better way to put it.

Long story short: GTX 690 is too powerful, save the money and get a GTX 670.
